So I’m looking ahead to gathering some ideas for my mehndi (I’m a serious pre-planner). I’ve already got my outfit picked out and I’ve always dreamed of bridesmaid dresses. I figure I can start stock piling now.
I’m going to buy the material for my friends and 4 cousins to get their suits made. All in all there will be 9 girls so I’m thinking of doing 3 different colours. I found some saris on ebay, like sequined ones, and I know the mehndi is a fun function and I’ve made clothes from saris so I was thinking of getting 9 of these saris from ebay: Bollywood Partywear Sequin Embroidery Sari Saree Bellydance Curtain Drape Panel | eBay and giving them to the girls to make whatever they want. What do you guys think? I’m obviously not going to break the bank on bridesmaids clothing but I believe if I want them to wear something specific I should atleast provide something.
Also, I’ve chosen this dress (or atleast this colour combo) for my mehndi:
What colours would look nice with it as bridesmaid dresses?
Re: Bridesmaids Outfits for Mehndi..
Not a huge fan of Georgette (fabric of the saris) specially if its less than $10, I am sure it won't be the good quality one.
A better option is to get pure chiffon fabric and get them dyed in different colors. If you want bride's maids dresses to match your dress, how about dying them in 2 or 3 tones. Each brides' made can have one prominent color and the other just hint on the hem, like the dupatta in the picture you posted. What style do you want for the bridemaid's dresses? A floor length dress, Anarkali frock or pishwas or shalwar kameez or would you let them decide whatever they want to make?

The thing is most, if not all, of the girls, will never wear these clothes again and they all offered to get their shirts made if I provided the fabric so I don't want to spend a lot of money to clothes that will eventually be tossed out.

If that is the case, you might want to use synthetic chiffon instead of Georgette - The fabric is available in different colors. A good quality synthetic chiffon fabric will be available within the same budget as that of the sarees.
