Is this an OLD WIVES Tale? that for a Marriage to Last…The Bride should be better looking and prettier than the Groom?
I have also observed that in general marriages where this scenario is present, are successful!

I’ve seen plenty of divorces where this scenario was present to know that this is an old wives tale.
But what makes you think it’s their “looks” that made the marriage successful? 
Perhaps those marriages are successful b/c the couples are compatible with one another, MUTUAL respect exists in the marriage, they have common goals for the future, and BOTH are willing to compromise in order to be happy.
Famous example if we’re considering looks only: Princess Diana was far better looking than Charles. That certainly didn’t stop her hubby from cheating on her…with a woman who wasn’t even close to what most would consider beautiful.

beauty is for everyone different, and most of the times the couple fitting perfect with one other... and my granny always told us "husn aur jawani chaar din" it's the nature that counts... and that is something that counts more in a relation. The nature, compatibility, understanding make relations last :)

It is not necessary that the brides who look much prettier than their husband can lead a successful relation , it is the understanding and smartness between the two,yes they both should be compatible with each other

My Chachi Jan is Ukranian and she said that it is a common things elders say in her culture.
In a perfect world it would be best to have a compatible partner but beauty is what women are generally judged by. Because beauty is not universally standardized different people find different features beautiful. Example: East Asian females (Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc) are thought of as beautiful, silky hair, pale skin, slim, but I don't find them attractive at all in physical features. Yet to others they are really beautiful. My husbands nephew loves Chinese girls and is looking to marry one, to each to their own. Beauty is very relative.

In all seriousness - its an old wives tale. It doesn't matter whose better looking! We can only judge beauty from the outside. And, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It really goes back to the compatibility that they both share, not looks!
