AMBALA: The new-age Indian woman has arrived. A bride from Ambala Cantt on Monday walked out on her groom the moment she set eyes on him after the jai mala (garlanding) ceremony, as if, in instant realisation that he wasn’t the man of her dreams. No amount of ranting and raving by the boy and his family or police intervention could bring about a change of heart.
“We tried a lot to persuade Reena but she just wouldn’t listen. She said she didn’t want to marry Dharamvir Singh because she didn’t like him. There was no way we could have forced our will on her,” said the bride’s father, Ramkishan.
i think this is the due to media that has made girls so bold to defy the parents decisions. however, the news does not make it clear that whether the galz had seen the guy before the marriage or not.
Well she prolly didn't meet him before, because of the parents, which always happens.
not really "new age" then, is it...
if someone has the "courage" to dump a guy during the wedding, then she definitely has the courage to stand up for a choice that is rightfully hers to make before the wedding day.
but i think it is very disgusting that u reject someone so ignonminiously in the presence of so many ppl.
well there are so many cases exist in pakistan where barat will go back (of course without the bride) only cuz bride's parents cant afford to gift the nakhato groom with a car-apartment-dowry etc.
so there is no limit to jahaliat :)
and dont blame media for it :)
The police had to be called to try to convince a girl to marry a guy she doesn't like??????????? Pathetic! Now would the police ALSO waste their time intervening in a wedding where the GROOM realizes at the last minute that he doesn't want to marry the bride????????? Or would they have the attitude that "He's a guy, he can do whatever. But a woman is not allowed to have opinions and must bow down to everyone."Thieves, sex offenders, and other corrupt people are getting away with their crimes because the police is busy trying to convince a girl to marry a guy. LOL LOL LOL!!!!!! OMG!!!!! Maybe free wedding food was their motivation.
^ You KNOW there would be double standards. And it's not uncommon in desi culture for parents to pressure daughters into marrying someone they don't care much for. While..........it would be better for the girl to develop such resoluteness in advance............some people wake up when the reality of the situation becomes more apparent to them.
