How can the movie be anything like a hollywood movie when its not even remotly related to hollywood?

Ur right, for some reason I thought Bride and Prejudice was Ash's first hollwood movie.... but i've just discovered that it's her first 'English language movie' and not a crossover film.
^ I love the book. It is my absolute favorite. I have already been disappointed by hollywood/bollywood interpretations of my favorite literature. Now I know that this will be a loose interpretation, but I do think that they could have transferred the story exactly as Austen wrote it into desi culture without any trouble. I know that they have changed things (the culture class business will become cliche I'm afraid).
Sahar02 it is my ultimate fav too, and like other guppies i am terrified, could they have just murdered a beautiful Austen classic? i love that book, i have read it 6 times and plan to read it again, i first read it when i was 14, i totally love the book. i dont know if ash will do justice to Elizabeth Bennets character, lets hope she plays the character well. i saw her on GMTV (a UK morning programme) she was acting so silly, giggling for no apparent reason. i hope the movie is good.
i dnt know..but i dont think the movie is meant to be taken literally as in it was never going to be a copy of Austen's book no movies ever do a good book justice, im sure their was a Pride and Prejudice 4 part series on the BBC years ago..that did not do the book justice either.
yeah i suppose ur right Miss_Mohabbat, it will most probably not taint my view on the novel, but one sometimes feels that they are making a mockery of a classic, but i think i am going over the top with the sentimental stuff. on the positive side i am totally loving the track Balle Balle. it is great.
i know what u mean..some books iv read and loved...then they go and make a crap movie totally ruins ppls perception of the original format as many ppl dnt bother reading the books first (lord of the rings!!)
Miss_Mohabbat, i totally sympathise with you, i can agree with you there. The questoin is how many of you are gonna go watch it on Friday, i wonder if it is gonna be appealing to a comman English person.
Maliaka, I think quite a lot of English people will go see the film because
there are lots of popular Desi programmes on TV e.g. All About Me and The Khumars at No. 42 which they watch and also Bend it Like Beckham was a big hit in the UK and Bride and Prejudice is by the same Director.
tell me about it, its like this is the era of a mini Indian Renaissance, there are a lot of desi or should i say predominantly indian programmes on TV. there's even a CITV kids programme called My Life as a Popat! Gone are the days when we jumped up and down when we saw a desi on the telly.
i actually cant stand The Kumars, and Meera Syal as the old lady totally annoys me, half the time it lacks humour and like you say it has outstayed its welcome.
