Best to help yourself, right? I found this in Arzoo Mag
If you are petite then you will have a variety of styles to choose from. Either a full skirted or a slim fit will both go well on your body type. You can choose from a variety of woven fabrics such as jacquard, brocades, and especially raw silks. Straps, sleeveless, off shoulder, cap sleeves, deep backs and even ¾ or full sleeves all complement your figure precisely. Your choice from these depends on your personal style and preference. It is best to choose something you are comfortable with wearing. The fabric should have small designs with very intricate embroidery in a vertical design. Wide U or square shaped necklines are great options as well if you are both short and slim. Avoid embellishments that are vertical because they can make you look too skinny. Do, however, consider wearing a longer choli and draping your dupatta over one shoulder. Your dupatta should not be too heavy or it will add too much extra weight to your appearance.
If u're petite stay away from long kameez's and lehnga's that have too much work on it.. the kameez shud fall at u're hip-bone and have "kaam" on the gala and sleeves is fine.. but try and avoid any "kaam" on the sides or daaman of the kameez.
The colors play a great role as well.. if u're top is light and the bottom is slightly darker it elongates the body (illusion).. just don't drown urselves in too much fabric and kaam.. the lehnga shud also be semi-fitted, avoid gharara's!
^ I think that most of us short women don't look great in mermaid lenghas. Your friend must have great proportions.
Ghararas are always nice -- go with the ones with the gote at the knee, rather than the ones with a lower gote (altho my weddings clothes had the lower gote because the boutique owner felt it was more fashionable).
Gharara's have a lot of fabric.. and usually it's heavy brocade and jamawar.. the fabric gathered around the hips/leg area makes a person appear short. A semi-fitted lehnga that flares out from the very bottom looks fantastic!
having the dupatta set in a proper way helps a lot too...but i think anything works for a petite figure...I wore a gharara wid a lil less gher and it worked fine on my engagement and am getting an above my knee shirt with a sharara on my wedding
I am also petite and met a MUA artist who I'm thinking about booking today... When she put the dupatta on me, it completely drowned me. She suggested having smaller length and width dupatta so that the dupatta doesn't completely overshadow everything else...
