Bridal suite decoration (flower beds)

ok I admit it…I’m already married a long time now, I eloped and have not one regret abt that. Well, except for missing out on that whole “flower bed” thing. I saw one the first time I went to pak and I have to say it was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. SO…I’d like to ask. Where did this tradition come from? Is there meaning behind it? Is it common only to certain areas or a more widespread thing? Anyone have pretty pictures? I guess its maybe something that isnt photographed very often which is a shame. I cant imagine the cost of doing one over here (in USA) but it WOULD be a lovely touch to a special anniversary. Do Desi gals typically look forward to that whole thing? Details please!

Re: Flower beds

flower bed? whassat? do you mean room decor?

Re: Flower beds

Its the first nite for the bride in her new home. The bannisters leading up the staircase were decorated with flower garlands. Then the bed had curtains of flower garlands surrounding it, suspended from the ceiling. Then there were rose petals scattered around the room. Prettiest thing I've ever seen!

Re: Flower beds

Haha she means when the couple has their rukhsati the guy takes her to the bed which is covered in roses and flowers and stuff..its absolutely gorgeous..

Re: Flower beds

You see it in Indian movies a lot. Some people find it over the top and tacky, but I like it. :clown:

Re: Flower beds

^Same :D

I think people in Pakistan have moved away from it, but those of us abroad sometimes like these traditional elements because we don't see them every day.

Re: Flower beds

yeah.. its to make your beautiful night more beautiful  and last time i checked it was still pretty common in Pakistan to decorate your bed/bedroom with fresh flowers and stuff. yes, desi girls do look forward for it and it is pretty much well expected from groom side to decor the room instead of just spreading the new bedsheet or watever
i wasnt expecting it for me (in canada) but my inlaws gave me this ‘beautiful’ surprise when we got back from our honeymoon

btw same is true for the Car too. the car they use to bring you home after Rukhsati

Re: Flower beds

I’ve never heard of it not being done here but my wedding was the first time i really saw it (last guys’ wedding i went to was in 96 and i dont remember).. I think ours was a shiny red jeep or minivan (rented) with ribbons around it :cb:

I’m not sure xactly how to describe how i feel towards it…being on that bed for the first time, its’ such an intimate moment, the bride is tired/nervous, the guy is nervous as well, its nice that the moment is captured but at the same time, having ppl surrounding u those first few minutes (or hours)…its weird…I donno if u guys’ll get it…

But I do think it is a nice idea and I hope it doesnt ever get phased out… even if the wedding itsself is simple, theres just something so amazing, being in such a beautifully decorated room…In alot of houses in pakistan, wher ethe couple has their wedding night in the house instead of hotel room, those decorations sstay up there for quite a while.. my cousin who got married in 05 had the hanging plastic flowers for over a year…

Re: Flower beds

it's a big thing in Pak. I remember for my uncle's wedding the decor was done with the fake stuff that was kept for a long time. IMO the decor should be with the real ones, think of the heavenly smell, so what if you can't keep it for months? it gets on your nerves after a while anyways, well it did on mine even though I was a kid back then.

Re: Flower beds

i don't know... i'm not a big fan of flower beds... plus, the fiance has allergies anyway :p
i think we're going to get a hotel room - somewhere nice and fanceh downtown. our car is a vintage bentley and that's gonna be decorated! yay! :) but the company does that.

p.s: toronto brides, its not as expensive to get a bentley as you might imagine... so much nicer than a limo.

Re: Flower beds

myohmy! how pretty is that?! :)

Re: Flower beds

It is pretty....i like it when its got red and white flowers tho.
SGC my hubz gets bad hayfever as well thats y we cud neva had anything like that. Plus i tried to explain what it was b4 we got married and he looked at me like i was mad and i knew with his hayfever it was neva gonna happen!

Re: Flower beds

Re: Dulha Dulhan ka Room

use small candles with holders and rose petals all over the room

Re: Dulha Dulhan ka Room

Include a hidden alarm clock that goes off in the middle of the night :halo:

Re: Dulha Dulhan ka Room

Ya as honey said, little candles and rose petals is a nice idea if you cant get hold of flowers…

My hubby booked a hotel room and he had gone in beforehand (without me knowing) to decorate it with rose petals and candles - it was so romantic - swoons
