Hi ladies,

I will Inshallah be hosting my cousins bridal shower in a couple of months and I am stumped on ideas because we have seen and attended almost every themed party and ideas play out at other peoples parties before. I wanted to create this forum to help me plan the shower and get some great ideas for games, themes, photos, recipes for menu items like dessert items, any helpful tips and anything else!

My main problem is coming up with a theme! Please help! So far gossip girl and sex and the city themes are out…anything else girly in mind??

I love organizing birthdays, showers and dholkis and one of my all time favorite themes is “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”

Color: Tiffany Blue


Invites can be similar to


So ask the bride to be dressed in Tiffany Blue. Choose ONE of the following complimentary colors, grey/silver, cream, brown, peach or similar. And ask all your guests to follow that color theme.




Hair should be in big updos and makeup should be cat eyeliner reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn’s look in the movie.


For the decor, incorporate aqua colored candles and potpourri in clear glass holders.



Or for a budget friendly decor; get a bunch of teal candles and just tie a white ribbon around their base. Also, get a bunch of white balloons and use teal marker to monogram each balloon with the name of the bride or the initials of the couple.

On one side of the room, create a photobooth with a background aqua bedsheet and clear beaded curtains.

Collect props like a stuffed cat toy, cigarette holder, long gloves, jeweled hairpiece and faux choker.





Ask a family member or friend to donate their HDR camera and photography skills and let your guests go wild taking pictures reminiscent of the Breakfast at Tiffany’s movie poster.

You can collect all these pictures and make them into a scrapbook album along with an invite to the bridal shower, ribbons from presents and other memorabilia from the bridal shower to create a wonderful gift for your cousin.

For games,
print out pictures from the Tiffany’s catalogue and have guests guess the price of the jewelery - whoever guess is closest to the actual price wins.
Also, make a baby mobile with many hanging hands. Make each hand different: one is hairy, one is fat, one has a nice french manicure, one has black pierced nails, one has a tattoo, et cetera. Then blindfold guests with an Audrey Hepburn eyemask, hand them a faux engagement ring and see who gets the ring on the RIGHT hand and RING finger fastest.

Another theme that I think works really well is Arabian Nights. It’s similar enough to desi culture that its easy to replicate and you can borrow from MiddleEastern countries like UAE, African countries like Egypt and Mediterranean countries like Turkey ..

Ask guests to dress in harem pants and do their hair, make-up and jewelry inspired from Disney’s Princess Jasmine



For the invite:

For decor: Remove furniture and create majlis like seating with rugs, cushions and shishas and string doorways and curtained areas with Moroccan lamps


Perfume the house by burning bukhoor in a mabkhara

For favours for the guests, get the belly dancing belts/scarves and hand them out at the beginning of the party


For the cake, something like


And for after-meal drinks, serve Turkish tea

For the music, try to download the CD “Of Belly Dancers & Star Gazers" by Ron Perovich

A bridal shower is basically a dholki where friends and family of the bride and/or groom get together for music and dancing in a small party leading up to the main event.

You could do a colour theme, cultural/country theme (Japanese, Moroccan, Spanish fiesta, Parisian glamour), theme from a favourite TV show or era (Medieval, 50’s Mad Men)

How about a “Sex and the City” theme??? I luvvvv that show!

**Invites: **

Have the invites look super modern and ask the guests to dress up to the max as if they were going out and were one of the sex and the city girls! In their best cocktail attire! Wearing heels is a must!! It could also be cute if you told guests that they could choose to bring either a “Carrie” gift (luxurious and frivolous), “Samantha” gift" (racy and sexy), “Charlotte” gift (pretty and proper), or “Miranda” gift (practical and fun).

For decor - keep things pink, silver, and black -

If you have balloons -To go along with the theme, have the balloons anchored down by stiletto heels

Menu

Carrie and the girls were all about their cosmopolitans… have “mocktails” in martini glasses served to your guests! Some good ones I have had have involved red bull, cranberry juice, and sprite. There are good “mocktail” recipe’s online!

For actual food go for a hip cocktail hour type theme - spring rolls, cheese puffs, croissants, grilled shrimp, spanicopida, phyllo rolls (with filling of your choice), tiny pizza rolls etc. Basically finger food. Thrown in pakoras, samosas, chicken tikka etc. for a splash of desiness and variety.

For the cake- you could either have cupcakes, or a cake made in the shape of stiletto shoe, or a cake that looks like the brides dream/favorite handbag!

**Games

**along with the traditional bridal shower games, also hand out sex and the city quizzes like “which character are you”

Favors

Get favor bags that imitate the look of purses. .. in them have a hook for your purse… the kind that you hang of the end of a table and hang your purse off of!, throw in a mini mani/pedi kit (forever 21 sells them cheap!), fun “vintage” looking jewlery (also forever21 find), and one of those mini sephora glosses!
