ooohh planning a bridal shower ..... I know it feel like a lot of work right now but it can be sooo much fun so try not to stress out too much. They key to a great bridal shower is to make sure everyone is engaged and having fun.
The first step is to make the perfect guest list. You want to make sure to include all the bride's close friends and not forget anyone, so make sure to get a list out of your sister.
Have you thought about having a theme? Somehow themes just make everything so much more fun. People might find it cheesy at first but its a great way to get everyone involved and plan everything accordingly (Decorations etc). It could be 50s or 60s, Color (Pink/Red), Bollywood/Lollywood ...or even a kiddy theme (the bouncy castle would go well) really anything goes.
You can find lots of great games online ...so I'm not going to get into that.
Make sure you have good food (I would suggest finger food so that people can concentrate on the games but thats up to you)
Lastly have a small little goodbag or giveaway for your guests. Its a nice little token for the guests to take home, but more importantly its a reminder that your sister can hold on to for a long while. However, if you don't have the time or patience or money to have goodie bags for all the guests then how about something for just the bride. Personally I think a scarp book with wedding advice and words of love from the important women in her life and all her friends would make the best and most personal gift, that she is sure to cherish! And don't forget to leave space where you can later put pics of the bridal shower.
alot of people buy them online, and then fill them with candy that matches the colour of your theme. (Google - type in "Bridal shower favours") and you will get a whole range of ideas, and then you can look for them in your local stores.
I just went to a "Sex and the City" themed bridal shower, so they gave away Martini Glasses with pink jelly beans in it.
It really depends on what your theme is...but you can even get organza fabric and make little pouches (by cutting out a square, and scrunching it together to make a pouch), put candy in them, tie them with a nice ribbon, and put a tag on it that says "Thank you for showering NAME with love" and then the date (you can print this using Microsoft Word)
Also, if you look up "Bridal Shower Themes" on line, it will give you a whole long list of ideas, and games to go with those themes. One of my personal favourite games is the Celebrity Couple Trivia....and you just ask questions about celebrity couples. ex. What is the nickname for glamour couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, answer - Brangelina.
my bridal shower was in feb..and my friend did a lingere theme for me...the color theme was pink cuz its my fav color...and everyone wore some sort of pink in there outfit...first we had lots of pics..then cut the cake and dinner....
they played bridal shower bingo...im sure you can find that on google...
then since it was a lingere theme...they divided the girls into teams (great ice breaker game too) all the teams got 1 pair of white undies and decorated them for me...then i had to choose which one was the best and they got a prize
you can play pass the present....what my friend did was wraped it many many times and whoever the music stoped on got to open one layer...at the begining they told the girls that whoever opens last they have to TRY ON whats in the present...so no one wanted to try it on...anyhow at the end it was a small teddy bear as a joke....
then they had a game for me in that they asked my groom a bunch of questions that not a lot of people know...so it was a test for me to see how well i knew him..and everytime i got a wrong answer i was given a piece of big bubble gum...which was really hard to chew after a few wrong answers...its a really fun game....
last but not least we opened presents...and then when it was time for the girls to leave...my friend gave out little favor candels...
^ I actually a question about favors.. what are good favors to give and how many should we put in each bag? What are some items to choose?
Depends on a few things:
1. How many guests are invited?
2. What your budget is?
If you have more people coming in than your budget then go for something small ...saimab33's idea for the pouches with the tag is perfect. However if you have a bigger budget then you can get more creative. For my best friend's bachlorette there were quite a few of us pitching in so we got zip ups from Zainab Market (in khi) and had "MyFriend'sName's Bachlorette" printed on them with the transfer paper.
If you live abroad you can find lots of ready made bridal shower souvenirs, however you're in Pakistan then you will have to be more creative.... Even feather boas from Gulf for every girl can make for a fun thing to wear at the shower as well as something to take home.
^^ kind of. I remember the last time I went to a bridal shower please gave out gift bags with stuff like candles and picture frames. So is it worth giving out a bunch of small stuff that isn't that expensive or just one thing? Like something personalized? I guess its dependent on my budget and the number of people coming... what would you guys do?

I have a guest list and food sorted. The scrap book idea is fantastic idea!! That's brilliant, i'll do that for sure!! and to leave space for pics is great, i'll get mum etc to sign it and then the girls to sign it on the day! Thanks xx

This sounds like an amazing bridal shower!! SOOOO much fun!!! And i've got some great ideas! thanks x
Girls you are great! Thanks so much!! So this is the plan:
Guest list - done
Food - pasta and pizza (easy stuff)
Cake - will get one with a funny pic of the bride printed on it :)
Games - Bride Bingo - will need to find out how this is done
- Ask the bride questions about the groom - [excellent idea komals]
- pass the parcel/present
Favors - with personal tags ""Thank you for showering NAME with love" and then the date (you can print this using Microsoft Word)" - [thanks Saimab33]
Present for Bride - scrap book [brilliant idea Malism]
So now only thing left is
1 - theme - help! My friend just had pink so cant do that, or kiddie as she had a bouncy castle
2 - favour - any ideas - guess candles will be nice...but anything a little more original?
a time of the day theme sounds fun too…
you can do a dress up theme…one of my friends theme was winter wonderland…another was red and white - love theme…you can do a beach party theme…search on google you will find hundereds…
heres a list that may help you http://www.bridalshowergamesatoz.com/bridal-shower-themes.asp
there are websites for favors as well…if you have time you can order something off of that…if you dont then go to a party store im sure they can give you loads of ideas too
for the theme, here is a list of things you can do:
High Tea - have everyone dress up nicely, and you can serve chai with your food Love Theme - ask everyone to wear red - you can decorate with hearts Movie Theme - whatever is the brides favourite movie - you can dress like characters from the movie, and decorate it with a location from the movie Season Theme - whatever is the brides favourite season - Summer, Spring, Winter, Fall
**Princess theme - **everyone can dress like a princess, and wear a tiara (crown) and you can get a special one for the bride (I did this one for my cousin when she got married - I used the Disney Princesses - and everyone wore a tiara, and the decor was all about princesses)
what about a garden theme? If your having it sometime soon, you guys can sit outside in the garden. You can use white linens for table cloths or even cheap lace would work from places like JoAnn fabrics. Pretty flowers for decorations would be nice as well. For favors, you can maybe give out small water cans filled with Candy and I bet you could those personalized if you have a small number attending.
^^at Saimabb, I love tea partys! I think I might convince who ever is throwing my shower to do that
is it with aunties or just the girls?
one of the BEST games i've played- totally fun and in the spirit of the bridal shower- was the make the bride underwear for her wedding.
guests were handing one underwear each from the hanes set, just regular white bottoms. then we were given scissors and markers and told to go crazy. it was hilarious! of course it only works when there are no aunties present to go "haw haw" :p
