I came across Rehana Saigol saris at Ensemble, in Karachi. They were mostly heavily embellished and the price range for the ones I saw was from 30,000 - 60,000 RPS. However, I thought the Sabyasachi and Rohit Bal sari designs they were stocking seemed to be wayyyy better!
You need a petticoat for both types of saris (its just like a slip). From your posts if looks as if you are a sari novice and I would recommend a ready made sari. Ready made saris are the ones that have the pleats already made in the front and all you have to do is hook it on the side:)
As for making the pleats yourself--that will take time and practice in order to achieve that desired neatness (something you can work on at home when you are bored).
Fabrics are dependent on your personal preference and frame. Personally, I like chiffon saris since they are flowy and have an ethereal look. For the petticoat and blouse kapra I prefer something light and silky. The cotton ones are stiff and look a bit odd under a chiffon sari.
Silk saris have this luxurious feel to them, banarsi saris re everlasting, you can have the ones with kamdani (subtle yet splendid)...at the end its up to wht you like:)
Really like the saris at Hilal Silk--nice cloth and a great selection of colors and styles. Everything there is timeless and elegant. Would highly recommend going there.

how did they look? what was their range?
They only had Saris by him and they were amazzzinnngg! I think they had like 3 pairs in total and were coloured in red and emerald green, but with a slight variation in design for each one. His range for these saris was around 60,000 rps and IMHO, was worth every penny! There was also a gorgeous ivory sari by Rohit Bal in the same price range.

OMG! Do you think they will continue carrying his stuff? SOUNDS AMAZING and 60000 is not bad at all for sabyasaachi!
^ I have no idea, but I hope the heck they do! Why don't you get in touch with Ensemble to ask if they still have any in stock? They have a facebook group as well.
^ I think that person is mistaken. They had a rack in their outlet that was devoted to a few indian designers, including sabyasachi, Rohit bal and others. The outfits were mostly saris.
I believe they do have a rack dedicated to Indian designers. Someone told me that they were even willing to order any particular outfit of the customer's choice from the Indian designers they stock.
^when I went to Ensemble a month ago, they didn't have Sabyasachi. They did have Ritu Kumar, Tarun Tahiliani and Rohit Bal though. Maybe I just missed that rack?
**In December, Rehana Saigol hosted a fashion show where she introduced sari collections by Indian design label Satya Paul and socialite/author-turned-fashion-designer Shobhaa De. **

Thats the same rack i'm talking of. They only had 3 designs by Sabyasachi in stock and i'm sure they were sold pretty quickly, because they really looked great in person.
i just ordered 2 sabyasachi sarees from india...this aunty in dallas makes a trip to india 3-4 times a year....IA i am hoping to go with her next year..
