Above post is d ans:) I found d pics on Picasa could'nt find them again sry:(
so HSY is the designer?
Do u think I can get this Lehnga made from Pak and not pay like $5000 to HSY for it?
I know it's off-topic in the bridal pics thread - but I just bought one of these sarees from south India - it is to-die-for (if I do say so myself).
I love the contrasting fabric and design of the fall/pleat versus pallu portion of the saree.
me too!! its flippin gorgeous! i saw one in dubai- the entire sari was emerald green but the pleats were burnt orange- it was beyond amazing but also 6000 dirhams! boo :/
are any of these types of saris available in karachi, does anyone know? i'd love to have one, sabyasachi or not.
yeah these kind of sarees are ALL over the shops right now - in fact among all the heavier sarees, it's pretty hard to find a straight up, old-fashioned, single piece! You ask the guy for the new sarees and 90% of them are half-and-half (well that's the term they use).
You need the right combinations (of colours and fabrics and kaam) otherwise I've seen this style go soooo wrong.
Sehrysh, i bought one too! peacock blue lahiriya in pallu and the pleats in beige with gold khadi block prints, and ethnic border in red and green. Not heavy, but mehndi type wear.
I totally want the Sabyasachi up there. Hot pink, black and gold.. ahhh... all my favourite colours getting along in one place.
I saw this other saree of his at a store - not exactly 'half-and-half' - but it was shaded jaali from dull rust to sage green, full of small motifs in applique. so the pleats in green and the pallu ends up in rust – or was it the other way around, i forget – either way.. it was lovely.
Weighed about 15kgs; forget the women wearing them, I wonder how the racks and hangers in boutiques handle all these heavy clothes!!
btw SGC - that one was only 4,500 AED, converted from INR :)
no… but it’s plain ugly ![]()
Sehrysh, which city's MG Road are you referring to?
I got mine in Kochi at one of the stores on MG Road. Towards the end of my trip I saw some similar sarees in Delhi (Lajpat Nagar and Karol Bagh) - but tbh, the best sarees in terms of selection were in south India.
The funkiest part of my saree is that there is a slit in the saree from where the pleats are visible and the slit is bordered by vertical pattis of kaam.
And mine (with heavier work) was about 500 USD.
Sehrysh, which city's MG Road are you referring to?
MG Road, Kochi/Cohin, Kerala.
I bought 3 in total (for my sisters as well) - mine is burgundy (pleats) and beige/gold (pallu). My sisters: 1) magenta and teal and 2) forest green and black.
For the guest or for the bride? Either way, it is fine. I’ll get another dupatta with it, though.
