i love the photography on this event!

Karachi ppl use them in their mehndi, i think its called an imam zamin, with some money inside it, which is given away at the end. Shaista Wahidi mentioned it on GMP, wedding week mehndi episode.
beautiful!!! love the texting hahahahaha

I saw some guy wearing it once and it had "Ya Ali" on it. I am not sure what it is for though
Re: BRIDAL PICS.
he looks soo freakin unhappy its not even funny!
Lovely pictures and the couple…but I seriously I hate these capris…it totally runs down the whole beauty of the khameez pants outfits…looks like 2 jamadarnis sitting …
funny thing is capris are getting higher and higher…what’s next…khameez without pants/shalwar.
i hope this awful fashion phase is over soon.
The look is nice but her sarees were poorly wrapped both days, esp nikka. I think sarees usually are not fancy enough for brides- the look would have been so much better with a lehnga version.
^ the arm band thing is called an 'imam zamin' (dont know if thats the correct spelling)...basically it contains sadaqah money which is given to charity after the event...for good luck and to ward of the evil eye. if you look closely the bride is also wearing one...
She is so pretty mashallah...seems as though she is glowing!

^^
i think they wrapped it as such to show of the kaam on the sari's border. her kameez is plain as you can see from the pictures.
but i agree...lehngas would have been better!

not really. i am from karachi and no one in my family wears that. i always thought it was more of a punjabi thing :) . but i guess it depends on your family customs.

oops just read this. yeah it explains it better and makes sense.
Re: BRIDAL PICS.
^I think it is a Shia tridition, I recently went to a wedding and they also had the yellow bands.

It's not a Karachiite custom...my family is Kashmiri, and we use them too. It's actually an Iranian custom, that was carried over into South Asian Shia culture, and then adopted by many Sunnis, especially in areas where there is a lot of Shia influence (UP, Hyderabad)
Imam-e-Zamin was a descendant of the Prophet Mohammed, and one of our imams. It is believed that he blesses travellers, so people traditionally used to carry around coins incribed with his name. The coin was a form of "nazr"..you promise to God that you will donate it to charity if you arrive at your destination safely. Nowadays people call those embroidered arm bands Imam Zamins...they fill them with money and tie them on whenever they start something important...a jouney, a marriage, etc...and then donate the money afterwards.
I respectfully disagree. Like you said, the saree is very poorly wrapped and you also have to be mindful when choosing what saree to wear and the accessories to go with that. Saree is indeed fancy if you know how to carry one off.
Re: BRIDAL PICS.
Janab-a-Ali is absoloutely (sorry for spelling mistake) right only want to add that IMAM ZAMIN is related to IMAM ALI RAZA a.s the eighth decendent of our PROPHET may peace be upon him. atcually it is referred to the coin which was made whencaliph haroon rashid nominated Hazrat Imam Raza as his heir to throne. The characteristic of that coin was if used during journey the traveller would come back home safely .when people heard about this characteristic they save the coins and no coin was left.then IMAM a.s told the people that any coin could be used for the purpose of safety ................sobasically it means the person wearing the IMAM ZAMIN is under special protection of ALLAH.

I respectfully agree to your disagreement :). I also said usually sarees are not fancy enough. even the ones of aishwarya rai that you showed are not bridal, they're really pretty though, and maybe the blue/pink one would be suitable for a bride on her wedding. the other pics are great though- and you're right: accessories, embroidery style, wrapping methods plays an important role, and also i think traditional wedding colors help too (red/gold).
^ :)
I'm getting married this november and I plan to wear a saree on my walima.
I'm not going to keep my saree simple. I'm going bling-a-ling-ling! Wohoo!
Of course I'll post the pictures.
