my mom looked like a china doll- she had this amazing porcelain skin with just a touch of lippy but she was completely covered in pink roses from the sehra which they'd parted and it framed her face so beautifully. she had false lashes that made her eyes so heavy she had them practically closed. its such a pretty picture but mum didn't have very much fun at her wedding. i guess that was the idea back then?
I’m thinking about wearing sarees to both the dholki and the valima…I want to wear my grandmother’s wedding saree to one, and I’m thinking about getting a sabyasachi mukerjee piece like this one for the other:
My naanijaan’s saree is also a dull gold color, but its in banarsi tissue with heavy jaal work in gold zari accented with touches of maroon and green resham work. I don’t have pictures, but its similar to this saree, but with the colored resham accents:
So I guess the two questions I have are…
Are the outfits too similar (most of the valima guests won’t be at the dholki though)?
And which saree should I wear to which event?
She has got the most FLAWLESS skin I have ever seen!
mmmm probably because it's been very nicely touched up. i'm not being mean, she's a stunning girl but i don't know why photographers need to go into the unnatural realm when her skin was probably already near enough perfect.
I think you should maybe go for a different colour when purchasing the sabyasachi mukerjee piece, because the way youve described your naanis sari, makes it sound very similiar. you need some variety in colours as even though as you say the same people wont be at both events, you have to think about pictures etc too.
I think you should wear your naanis to your dholki as youre close family will be there and will appreciate the sentiment more good luck.
^ I agree, if this is the saree taht you have in the third pic, you need to add some colour and wear at a more intimate occasion where ppl cann relate/appreciate the thought.
One of my aunts wore an antique sari on my wedding too, I think it belonged to her mother or nani, it was in graet shape, she made a new blouse with another colour in the sari to accent the sari, looked very nice. I will see if I can find a pic and post.
Can you get the other saree made in a different color combo?
I like the one you posted that looks similar to your naani’s, i would wear something like that to the dholki and wear a totally heavy saree for a valima..in a difff color
Loved both saris–actually my MIL has a really old one quite similar to the tissue sari:) It too has dull gold zari kaam. As for the same color on different days–I dont think its a problem as long as you are comfortable with it (so many brides wear yellow on the mayoon, mehndi and other dholkis).
IMO your nanijaan’s sari would look spectacular on the Valima with vintage jewellery (uncut diamonds or a polki set or even a saat lara). Emeralds would work beautifully and rubies are the perfect complement to the green accents. Its the simplicity of the sari that gives it such elegance. Reminds me of Princess Niloufer’s photos.
The sabyasachi mukerjee design is a fun/spunky piece and I would leave that for the more festive dholki.
Its the jewelery/hair/make-up and the ambiance of that particular event that will give each piece its own look so in my opinion the color doesnt matter much. Remember Kiran Bokhari who wore the same exact jora on her shaadi and valima, but looked completely different on each event.
Janab, i dont think the saris are similar.
one is vintage banarsi tissue..the other very festive...
i would do vintage for mehndi and wear the sabayaschi on the valima..

This is what my anunt did to her vintage sari to wear for our valima. It looked amazing, pics don’t do the justice. It didn’t look 30-40 year old, she added new blouse and tussles at the end to give it a flare.
It was so occasion appropriate, she stood out in 4000+ guests.
