BRIDAL PICS.

Awww! President. Thanks for that

SCG & Shay no more confusions for me anymore. Scoop neck sounds perfect. Thinking the look I had in my mind it’ll look elegant.

Btw Sara u wrote what I was gonna write after reading the replies. Ladies it IS for my wedding/Barat/Rukhsati/whatever u wanna call it AND my back is gonna be covered with the dupatta anyways. I also mentioned getting some clothing added to it later on. It was basically for my wedding day or rather night if I was to be blunt abt it.

I dun see how a neckline like that would look tacky & make me look like a cocktail server (that was a bit extreme) Unsophisticated depending on what kind of people u r sitting with, yeah maybe. But tackiness.I dunno abt that. Open galla on a bride would actually look tacky. I dun wear sleeveless so I m not gonna comment on that. There r certain dresses that only look good withOUT sleeves.

Stealing your idea…

If the dupatta is going to drape remotely well, it's probably going to be a somewhat sheer fabric, which means the backless choli held together with doriyan will still be visible.

The other big problem would be with the look itself...those doriyan would have to be tied pretty tightly because they're the only thing holding that blouse on (well that and the will of God)...which means that unless the girl is built like a skeleton, she's going to look totally trussed up like a stuffed sausage.

Re: BRIDAL PICS.

unless the dupatta is jamavar, the doriyan would definitely be visible.
also, you would need a backless bra.

Re: BRIDAL PICS.

^ these are all do-able things though- there are tons of convertible and backless bras on the market, and i’m pretty sure tailors can also stitch bra-like padding into these blouses to solve that issue.

i mean, yes if she’s generous in the chest area then perhaps backless isn’t for her, but smaller girls can pull the look off well and i think the dorian are stitched different from the usual backless tops… i.e. theres still a strip of fabric on the back that holds the dorian, like a quarter blouse on either side, so its not like the dori’s are attached to the edges of the front of the top – that would be a bit skanky.

what i mean is something sort of like this, but obviously without the feathers :stuck_out_tongue:
but you see the bits of fabric on either side, where the blouse extends around the back? that could be thicker too if a 2" strip is too thin for her.

That’s exactly the look I was afraid of.

I think even my gori friends would think that’s pretty gauche for wedding attire. Brides are supposed to look at least a little demure…and outfits like that are anything but. I think the deep back you suggested earlier would be a much better idea.

I’ve seen some indian friends of mine wear the most beautiful, elegant sarees with blouses like that, or halter necks, tops with spaghetti straps etc.

I think it ruins it and prefer the traditional blouse with a saree. I think it looks more elegant.

Here are a few gora backless wedding dresses (no doris, mind you but still held together by something or the other). I am not daring enough to try even one of them but 3 and 4 seem like nice, practical ideas and would work with a non-see through dupatta. Might as well add that hubby says that surprises are good but shocks of this kind can devastate a man (LOL! Don’t take him seriously).

(Psst… I made a sari with two blouses. One was respectable and quite nice and the other was a teensy weensy bit that I changed into after coming back from a party we attended. Hubby grades it as a nice surprise.):smiley:

Re: BRIDAL PICS.

hrm… janab, i guess it depends on the kind of bride you want to be and the wedding you are having- i was anything but demure on my day and i guess i kind of don’t like the little box we put our brides into, like spending your whole wedding evening staring at your feet in an attempt to be a "shy bride. i just don’t know very many girls who are like that in real life, but somehow, they happily climb into this “box” for their wedding day, which really they should be enjoying! anyway. its a personal peeve, no biggie

on topic, i still think theres classy ways of doing backless and hoochie ways of doing backless. its also all up to the girl in question and how well she pulls it off- ooh! i have this great backless blouse at work, i’ll put it up when i get there. that should demo what i mean better than that bridal asia blouse.
and remember too, the blouse isn’t going to be a tiny choli… its going to be a long blouse with a cut out in the back… i think it’ll be way more covered up than wearing a backless sari blouse.

also, i know she’s not a desi bride, but this is a really good friend of mine, kate, and her pics just went up on the photog’s blog- i think they’re gorgeous!! that shot of them sitting in front of the limo is my favourite

Some of my friends from school and college as brides…

Isn't open galas serving cocktail in vegas aswell?

Anyway, the way she has described it doesn't seem too tacky as her dupatta will be covering the back...

Awesome, fati123, Thanks for sharing, You have a cool looking bunch of friends who looked even more amazing as brides.

I love the colour combo here. Are those paisleys on her shirt? I am looking for wedding dresses with paiselys for inspiration. Do you have a pic of the whole dress, up close? BTW, her makeup was really good on both days. :biggthumb And the jhoomer is cute. :cu2:
