the silver shining thing our cousin is wearing is a silver eyeliner i believe. i am not sure if it was liquid or a solid eye pencil, but it looks liquid to me.

i love this outfit and the jewerly its so elegant and i like how its not all matchy

The Quran is a source of guidance, not something you hover over the bride’s head as she is getting rukhsatified! It doesn’t bring any extra barkat or whatever! I find this particular tradition of ours so disrespectful.

Re: BRIDAL PICS.

^I agree!!! Not to mention, do people carrying it even do wudu??

I do not know. But there is no harm is holding the quran as long as you dont touch the actual script.

i've been to TONS of weddings, and i still don't understand why the Quran is carried over the bride's head. anyone know the reason?

Yeah, the statistics are the same here. I dont know the exact reason but i think its something along the lines of getting "blessings" from the Quran?!? maybe someone else knows the exact reason.

Re: BRIDAL PICS.

^Its actually a shirk considering the fact that in all the weddings these days there is singing and dancing, and now in some of the weddings you see people drinking etc..the shaadis are no more a segregated, but in the end people make the bride walk under the quran so that she is in its protection, while the alims say that its better to marry the islamic way and read the quran..rather then seeking its blessings/ protection by just keeping in on the head etc.

Re: BRIDAL PICS.

^ You're right, but I wouldn't call it shirk, biddah maybe? :)

Re: BRIDAL PICS.

Nope - the alims call it shirk

Re: BRIDAL PICS.

^ maybe its bcoz some think is the Quran that'll "protect/ bless" them, hence the shirk

shirk is associating partners with God,

shirk also encompasses associating power to things other then God, be it the Quran, and Ayat-al-kursi locket, etc.

I guess because people think it will bring blessing to the marriage, like starting off the marriage (from the first steps when she is leaving with the groom) under the blessing and protection of the Quran..something like this

I dont like this rasm at all. Thank God no one tried to do it on my wedding. If you want the blessing and protection of Allah in your marriage and in your life then why not actually open the book, read it, and act upon it, instead of wrapping it up in a shiny cloth and holding it over your head and meanwhile doing everything else at your wedding that goes against the teachings of the Quran. It doesnt make much sense...at least not to me
