Hello ladies. So my wedding is coming up I am searching for quality bridal makeup in NYC. We all know how amazing makeup is in Pakistan and even in the UK but unfortunately we don’t have those kind of places here!! I wanted to ask suggestions for getting bridal makeup done in NYC. There is Raheela parlor in Brooklyn where everyone seems to go for bridal makeup but I’m not too thrilled about it though I have not yet gone for a trial.
I am considering freelance makeup artists from MAC and other good makeup companies. Or, freelance Pakistani makeup artists. Does anyone have any suggestions? Would also love to see example pictures of NYC brides! Thanks!
hey Lover of Chai, Raheela is pretty awesome. My friend went for her bridal makeup on the nikkah day and barat day. And mA she looked pretty good. You can also go to Rani's she has at least 6 branches around New York, mostly in Queens. She is also known for her good work. If not I've heard if Sonia C, located in CT.. also has a facebook page.
Raheela isn't a bad choice at all BUT from what I remember, there was hardly any privacy..u get your makeup done next to someone getting their eyebrows or hair done, so if you don't mind having ppl glance at you or look at you while ur getting ready, then I'd recommend raheela's....
I will look into Rani. Is she Pakistani? Can you link me to Sonia C's fb page? In terms of going to Raheela, privacy isn't an issue for me as long as the makeup is good! Any pictures of brides online you know of as examples for me? Do you know what kind of makeup they use? The right foundation and a natural look are very important to me (not the chalk white ghost look! haha)
Sabs do you remember if your friend had on traditional makeup colors - red lipstick, gold/smokey eye shadow?
My shadi outfit is mainly gold/beige with a red and gold dupatta. Any other ideas for what will look good with this combination in terms of makeup?
lover, I dont' have pictures but I know a few brides who got ready there and their makeup was absolutely lovely...definitely none of the paindu white makeup that you're afraid of.
for your outfit, you can do a gold and black smokey eye (or if your outfit has a tinge of navy or green, u can use that instead of black) with nude lips, or a golden eye with red lips...
heyy Lover Chai. Rani is not pakistani she is indian I belive. But she has been good. they are clean and have private bridal rooms, and services are nice. But Raheela is known in the Pakistani community. You can go for a trial, ask her to show you pictures and try a trial. bring a picture of your dress to her and according to that she should do your makeup.
My freind that had gotten her nikkah and barat makeup was amazing. her barat dress was maroon, gold and green. And mA she looked gorgeous. The base was just perfect, and she had smokey eyes, and the blush was awesome. Like she was honestly glowing.
And here is Sonia C’s page- she is indian so goes all indian traditional.

Thanks Ruba...Yeah definitely try posting pics! ...I really want to see different makeup styles.
My wedding is in March '12 and I still don't know where I'm getting my makeup done!! I hear everyone books quickly because there aren't many makeup artists in NYC...brides in pakistan have so many choices sighhh
Sorry, not familiar with the NYC seen, but I've heard some good things about Nina Doshi - but not a 100% sure on the value she offers. I guess you can always go to a MAC counter, try out the MUA and see if she does a good job. If so, you can hire her on the side. But be sure to also have a backup - you don't want an MUA backing out at the last second and not having anything to fall back on.
Check out the boutique/Jewelery store called Minas on Foster Ave. There is a salon in the back where I got my hair and make up done for a wedding. She did a fabulous job. Only thing I didn't like was the way she did my lips, which I changed myself afterwards. I got many many compliments that night.
