Bridal Makeup - Getting married in Chicago, July 2012

Hi everyone!

After searching extensively for makeup artists in Chicago, I’m finally down to deciding between these (in the order given), and would love to get your feedback:

  1. Mehwish Khan - www.mehwishkhan.com
  2. Sonia Roseli - www.soniaroseli.com
  3. Chicago Bridal Hair & Makeup - chicagobridalhairandmakeup.com

I like a clean/natural look and I don’t want to be overly done on my wedding day. I’ve heard great things about both Mehwish Khan and Sonia Roseli. Mehwish seems to have significant experience with Indian/Pakistani brides (her work is beautiful) and from speaking to a colleague, does a phenomenal job. I also read some great things mentioned about her on another thread on gupshup, so overall I’m pretty comfortable – my only concern is that she seems a bit expensive.

Roseli is also well known in Chicago… Her staff is pretty good, but its difficult to get an appointment with her directly - plus I think she’s on the pricey side as well if you book with her directly.

Chicago Bridal looks reasonably priced, but I’m concerned that they may not have as much experience with South Asian brides.

I also considered a couple of other indian makeup artists, but from the comments I’ve received, I wasn’t completely satisfied. Please let me know if you have any recommendations. Thanks!!!

Jameela

Can't go wrong with either Mehwish Khan or Roselli. I'd prefer MK though given her experience with Indian and Pakistani brides. I don't know too much about Chicago Bridal.

Re: Bridal Makeup - Getting married in Chicago, July 2012

Have you looked in to Saleha Abbassi? She has a facebook page Goddess makeup. She is absolutely great at what she does.. Couple brides in my family including myself got ready from her and her work its traditional and professional. Check her out. here is the facebook link.

Re: Bridal Makeup - Getting married in Chicago, July 2012

I agree. Mehwish Khan did my cousin's wedding and her work was incredible. We had gone through a few trials with some other makeup artists, but given the reputation she has, ultimately decided on her.

It was refreshing not to have to deal with another "vendor" when everything was so chaotic. She did a great job in coordinating all the details in advance, showed up early and was so professional, and friendly - and of course the makeup was amazing.

I love Saleha Abbassi's work! She seems like she can tailor her work to any person's style. If I were in Chicago she would probably be my first choice :)

Mehwish Khalid. Hands down. Awesome price, awesome service, really sweet girl.
I haven't heard of Chicago bridal hair and makeup - but if you need someone to do your hair, Chicago Bridal Hairstylist (her name is Theodora Bourikas, you can google) does awesome hair styles. If you have short hair she uses extensions, which was a first for me. Mehwish Khan's makeup is ok, but way too expensive. Saleha also does ok makeup - all her brides tend to look the same though. =| She just changes the colors here and there, there's no significant difference in saying this is one bride and this is a different one. It's not appealing. Mehwish Khalid kind of has the upper-hand on both bcos she's relatively new and unknown. Try a trial with her and see what you like!

Re: Bridal Makeup - Getting married in Chicago, July 2012

I have seen Mehwish Khalid's makeup and its definitely an option but it doesn't really stand out to me

Re: Bridal Makeup - Getting married in Chicago, July 2012

Look at her recent pics - she varies from light, clean makeup to a full heavy look. Anyways, to each his own. I would definitely not recommend Saleha though, all her bride's look the same. =/

Re: Bridal Makeup - Getting married in Chicago, July 2012

Well, Saleha has a specific style of makeup that is basically her brand that brides seem to really like. Most importantly, its a very clean look even though she uses so many colors.

Same thing with Mehwish Khan...she has a very specific look that she gives her brides which is her style.

Mehwish Khalid is good too. I think if her work suits your taste, you should go for it.

One more thing the OP needs to make sure she remembers is SOME of these MUA don't do it all. You have to make sure you're getting hair, makeup, dupatta, jewelry setting, etc.

Re: Bridal Makeup - Getting married in Chicago, July 2012

^ Mehwish doesn't do makeup does she? Because I remember my cousin got her Walima makeup from Mehwish, and she had her hair done by kulsoom. Not sure if it was my cousin's choice to get hair from elsewhere, or if it is because Mehwish does not work with hair.

Re: Bridal Makeup - Getting married in Chicago, July 2012

I’m not sure which Mehwish you’re talking about, but Mehwish Khan does both Hair and Makeup. Her price also includes the Dupatta and Jewelry setting. As Bonbonnaire pointed out not everyone offers that so be sure to compare apples to apples.

Re: Bridal Makeup - Getting married in Chicago, July 2012

Mehwish Khalid only does makeup and dupatta/jewelery settings. No hairstyles.

Re: Bridal Makeup - Getting married in Chicago, July 2012

^ yea, sorry I meant she doesn't do Hair. My bad, typo. And I was talking about Mehwish Khalid.

Hi
All over the body skin wise very sensitive,so far as bridal make up is concerned it must be very top-class quality which should not have any side effect upon the skin.

Re: Bridal Makeup - Getting married in Chicago, July 2012

Hi girls, I really appreciate all the kind words you have put out there for me. For any of you that have concerns about the package... I have now started offering the entire package. I now bring my own hairstylist with me so its easier for my brides :).
