Bridal joras are so heavy!!

Hi ladies,

So I tried on my reception bridal jora and was really surprised at how heavy it is and how hard it is to move around in!!! If I had known I would have had made it lighter, with less kaam than I did. And I tried it without the dubatta - it’ll prob be a lot worst with the dubatta. Uffff

So my question for all the married ladies / esp the more recently married ladies, is how was the experience of wearing the wedding jora (lehnga / dubatta etc) for your wedding? How hard was it to move around and did you enjoy urself that day or was the jora a big bother?

I mean in the pics the brides all look so happy, no one seems to be struggling with their clothes!! lol My jora would have to do described as medium heavy / quite heavy I think. However, it’s def not like Bunto Kazmi or some of HSY jora which are crammed full of kaam - dunno how girls wear those!!! Basically, I wanna be able to walk around, enjoy myself, dance etc at the wedding. So guppies, pls share your experience with the jora and the dubatta.

Re: Bridal joras are so heavy!!

I would say it's super important to get your dupatta pinned on right. My jora had a reasonable amount of kaam on it, and when I went to the salon and the time came to get the dupatta pinned it was a bit of a problem. The first time they put it on I felt like there was too much weight on my right side, and I literally could not stand up straight! I kept tipping over to the right, lol. So in the end I took charge, and told the girl exactly how to place it on my head (i.e: center the dupatta) and then I was extremely comfortable for the rest of the evening, Alhamdulillah. :)

Re: Bridal joras are so heavy!!

Yeah, pinning is super important. Your hair and dupatta. You're going to be moving around all day and you shouldn't have to worry about your hair falling out of place or readjusting your dupatta, or feeling uncomfortable about the weight.
My jora was heavy overall. The lengha was light, the shirt was super heavy, the dupatta was medium heavy and it had the crystal balls. Ppl thought I was dying in it cause it looked really heavy, but I wasn't at all. I was very comfortable and didn't feel the weight. But my hair wasn't pinned properly and it was a constant nuisance throughout the night. It kept getting loosened by my tikka and falling in my face. I had the MUA fix that up for the valima and everything stayed completely in place!

Re: Bridal joras are so heavy!!

im nt married yet so i wonder the same, but i guess shadi ki khushi mein dulhans forget all the bauj they r carrying :p

Re: Bridal joras are so heavy!!

My baraat outfit is wayyyy heavier than my waalima one but I am more comfortable in it (it is sort of a mermaid cut.. Idk. Its not too fitted but is not all flowy from the hips area. My waalima one on the other hand is light but is all round and stuff so it looks reallyyy big on me and is hard to carry.

Re: Bridal joras are so heavy!!

Mine is also EXTREMELY heavy! I'm actually thinking about something I read online about sewing the dupatta into your hair/updo by weaving a matching color thread through the fabric and your hair. sounds crazy but if that's what it takes! lol :X

Re: Bridal joras are so heavy!!

farisha, you can pin up the border onto your hair updo like they do in routine and then you can lift the dupatta on your back and pin it up with a good safety pin to your shirt/b-strap in one/two places. it might not look very nice when seen from the back but this is what I have seen parlours here do to heavy dupattas

Re: Bridal joras are so heavy!!

^thanks prototype! ;) I am considering that also, but I hate the thought of making holes in it by letting its weight hang on safety pins. it's too nicee. :( I'm going for a trial this weekend so we'll see what they say! :)

Re: Bridal joras are so heavy!!

As has been suggested definitely lift and pin to your top. It will take off a lot of the weight. It can look a little strange from the back, but if done properly should look fine. That is what the parlours in Pak do, and it makes a huge difference. Sewing to your hair sounds painful, plus you don't want it to pull your hair down with it.

Re: Bridal joras are so heavy!!

Just pin the bottom border slightly higher than it naturally falls, so no holes. It might leave a little loose fabric, so tuck it neatly behind.

Re: Bridal joras are so heavy!!

what if the back of the shirt is low, around the shoulderblades? is is a good idea to pin is in the lower part of the shirt?

Re: Bridal joras are so heavy!!

All these replies are making me even more nervous! lol I'm just happy now that I have made the nikkah jora very light. It's got a lot of kaam on it but is very light and airy and I can't still have fun in it!
