the gold i bought years ago...is being used as i need it.....otherwise i would be buying the now inflated gold...so really the investment i made....(not a financial investment) in gold...was all worth the money! :) I wasnt talking about financial investment....i was just letting the girls know...that if you buy gold when it is cheap..they dont have to shell out thousands when they go to the jewelers...they can just bring in their gold..and the design they want...IMO that is practical...as opposed to buying whatever they are selling...at their price..
ohh i c, so its nto a financial investment in the traditioanl sense but, yeah i see what you're saying...
my aunt was telling me yesterday, she fell in love with these earrings some tme ago but after some arguing they cudnt agree on the price so she left it... she came back 3 days later and she ended up paying $60 more b/c within that time the price of gold had jumped soooo high..
^^ if its a GOOD investment it will give u more than what u paid and also more than the inflation rate which gold doesnt do if u look at its historical prices. anyhoo, in terms of giving gold to the daughter/DIL during a wedding, it shouldnt be thought of an investment, rather as jewelry that the girl would love wearing. however, many people believe it to be an investment not only because people think of gold as an investment ( which is not always bad as it is a less risky investment than many other things) but also because its thought by many that if the new couple happens to go thru a bad period of time financially, they can sell the gold and then ofcourse the solid gold jewery would give a better return than that with stones, even if it is diamonds or what not.
in addition, diamonds are possibly the worst investment ever, worse than rubies and emeralds. they have no intrinsic value, are almost il-liquid and u will probably not get nearly the same back for it, as u paid for it unless its one of those famous and rare diamonds. but looking at the viewpoint of a wedding, if the MIL only cares about 'showing off' then she should get diamonds and whatever stones she wants only to tell people how much it cost. but i hate showoffs and IMO showing off is just as bad as lying, so why not lie and tell people it cost more than it actually did and just save the money and give it to the new couple as a present?

I completely agree. That's why its actually better if you get presents both in solid gold that is pretty and wearable and also beautiful gold jewelry with stones. so later on when u do want to trade in ur old pieces, u can use the solid gold first as it would definitely give u a better rate.
I still feel that gold or diamond jewelry is too much money to pay in this economy. For gifts I would prefer to buy nice fashion jewelry. People are now prefering investment in gold coins rather than jewellery.
Since I prefer silver jewellery best thing I came across recently was that Romika Jewels actually lowered their prices by about 25% which made shopping of gifts much easier. My cousin is Saskatoon actually got some amazing prices from Romika Jewels which was even better than listed on the website. I think calling them is a good idea. They even updated some new designs on the site Romika Jewels - Designer Sterling Silver Jewelry wholesale, Earrings, Bangles, Necklaces, Pendants, Victorian sets .
salaam everyone here...i am new here n need some help..
i am maybe getting married next year...i have already my shaadi lehnga...now i need some jewellery for it..

^ I'd be easier if you posted some pictures of your lehnga. :)
On a side note, if you browse through the 14 pages of jewelry, you might find something you like.
Good question. No I don't work for them but I just buy from them. Since they have always given such great service to me and my family I love to mention about Romika Jewels and their work to all my friends. They even custom designed my Bridal set as well.
Once you deal with them you will understand why I have recommended their jewelry.
