Bridal Jewelery

Re: brides jewelery

oh really!!!! i cant wait to see.....yeah "old is gold" love the traditional:)

wow! its been forever since ive seen ur posts ziggy--hope u doing well....

is it just me imagining or have brides been wearing those long pearl necklaces again??????? with the pearl jhumaar, tikkah......seems as if there was a burst of pearls after tahira syed's daughter got married....the multiple string necklace (i dont know wht its called..) and the long pearls strand sets (with the strands closer together).....

Re: brides jewelery

fingirl...i am in dallas...and i went to malanis after all the rage and the advertisement being blasted on practically every radio station........it was all a hype...dont take me wrong..they had some great contemporary designs..but as far as traditional jewelery is concerned.....Govindji had better variety....and those are the only two stores i would trust..being in dallas and all........

and blushing rose..the pearl necklace is known as either a Sat-lara...or a panch-lara....(the 7, or the 5 'lara).....you can even get the 3 stranded one.....both my grandmas had them......its a very traditional design...and an alternative to the indian 'rani-haar' :)

Re: brides jewelery

He’s defintely worth a visit if you’re in Karachi…he also has a son by the name of Tapu Javeri who apparently is a famous photographer/model/DJ…i’m not sure if you’ve heard of him???

I’ve been doing well…thanks for asking  just been a little busy with family, you know how it can get!

I know what you mean about the multiple string necklaces…Bunto Kazmi’s daughter in law wore one of those with a guluband necklace on her shaadi.

I’m including a link for you to check out…This jeweller is really famous in India for her kundan and polki sets…

I don't think those ever go out of style, as far as i know, they've always been called rani haars, i had one for my valima but it was with matching beads and not white ones... its a pretty piece of jewelery, definitely a classic.

Re: brides jewelery

this is a rani haar http://www.paklinks.com/gsmedia/files/50864/DSC04569_1.JPG

what she is wearing is a sat lara http://www.paklinks.com/gsmedia/files/61799/11111111111111.JPG

Re: brides jewelery

yeayeayea thats wat i had..the rani haar..

my mom used to have a huge haar like that..but pure chunky gold. I used to go so ga-ga over them when id' see them in the stores.. :@:

pounds or dollars ?

Re: brides jewelery

:) I love them too!!! I have to wait and see what jewelery I can wear....after I get my dress... :)
I want to wear a jhoomer...but I am afraid...the dupatta will disagree..... :(

Dollars

Yeah it's a shame people don't value traditional designs any more. My mom has a pair of maroon jhumkas---they look so ancient---I've told my sisters...I'm keeping those!

Ziggy, thanks for the info. re. Ali Javeri. I plan on checking them out when I go to Khi. I'm thinking I'll get my jewellery first and lenhnga later. After all, jewellery costs way more and you should build your look around it. Ziggy if you've bought anything from them, do share (if you don't mind).

Re: brides jewelery

^ lol..im doing it the other way around....the dress is turning out to be more than my jewelery....its because.....i convinced myself...that...i need jewelery which i can wear later on with anything....but the wedding dress.....is a wedding dress.......its a one time thing... :)
the jewelery you can keep buying...but the dress...again...is one time opportunity.....i do sound convinced don t I!! :p

Re: brides jewelery

wow this means i can ACTUALLY wear my mom's pearl necklace in real life.......not for fun infront of a mirror:):) oooo u've seen Bunto's daughter pixx--Im so curious--heard so much about those dresses and the jewelery, but never got to see them in pixx. Yeah Ive heard of Tapu Javeri!! So talent runs in the family--should definitely tell my mom to give it a try!

thanxxx for the definition chanda!! hmmm another question–How are polki and kundan different from one another…

ohhh you went to malani jewelers—I personally am not into those types, because they r just loaded with beads…cant even categorize that style–makes no sense to me lol

cool mughali designs:) wow! imagine wearing those sets and an angharka with churidaar pajama, henna hands and walking around shalimar gardens in the 1600’s…

Re: brides jewelery

kundan is embossed metal…its also called jadaao…depends on the design…when the gold is hot and in a state of being shaped…the jewelers emboss it with a pattern and fill it with stones.

this is kundan…its an embossed design filled with colored stones…usually it has less gold..(mixed with alloy) because in order for the pattern to hold so many stones without difficulty (and danger of falling out) it needs to be mixed.

polki=uncut diamond

Re: brides jewelery

Shahji has good polki designs..

Re: brides jewelery

chanda, wow! that site has some gorgeous pieces! mom said she was going to get me a small polki set for my first anniversary- i’m excited to see it.

but isn’t kundan when they insert a piece of colored foil behind the diamond to create the colored effect?

this site has some jadau pieces…
