Bridal from Pakistan Vs UK - advice on my 1st world problems please!

Hi guys,

I’m planning a wedding in 2019 but because I can never get time off work I have to organise way in advance and I’m really struggling. If any of you have experience please help! I don’t care too much about designers but I do love a few, and I want to spend within reason, enough to get a beautiful dress but not so much to break the bank.

I have two options for getting my main bridal made:

  1. Go to Pakistan and have it made via family contacts, I trust these people and I’ll be able to get a dress exactly how I want it within about £2k, also I’ll get to go shopping with my family and make some good memories, and hopefully put in orders for dresses for other occasions.

The issue is that the maximum time I’ll get off work is 2 weeks, my mum and sister and khala will stay behind to supervise.

The other issue is that because of family stuff we’d have to go in July 2018 (even though the dress is for July 2019), which is far toooo early I think. I’m hooping to lose some/a lot of weight and I want it to fit properly. Will I have to go back for fittings nearer the time? If I do that sets me back a total of £1k in flights. So is going to Pakistan really cost saving? Does anyone have experience of having a bridal posted and then altering in UK, how was that?

  1. Buy an off the rack designer from someone like Hina Rasim in Uk who liaises with pakistani designers. The dress I like from suffuse is £4k (is that really a lot more than a pakistan dress + flights + all the khwaari in the heat?). I wouldn’t get anything less than a designer in UK because I don’t really trust vendors here and I don’t like the designs in shops here. This would be soo much more convenient but it’s priceyyyy.

The issues are, firstly, I lose out on a fun pakistan holiday, but also that the few times I’ve tried to contact Hina Rasim I’ve been unsuccessful and to spend so much on a vendor you don’t have any experience of is a gamble. I don’t know of any other UK stockists that liaise with pakistani designers. And even though I loove suffuse a family friend ordered from there and her bridal was a no show on the last minute. Is it worth the money and the huge gamble? I’ve heard this to be true of lots of big names in Pakistan.
If anyone has any experiences of her or knows other vendors in UK - help me!
Which option do you think is the best for me to get the dress I’ve wanted since I was about 8 years old?

I’ll be eternalllly grateful for some sane advice to get me through this mess.

Hello

Re: Bridal from Pakistan Vs UK - advice on my 1st world problems please!

oh hello, I am in the exact same predicament. I’ve tried all the ‘popular’ places in London (Tehxeeb, Nees, Guls Style ect) but none of these shops have anything traditional or what the designers offer in Pakistan, i e the very traditional type of stuff. Everything is just full of bling or thick chunky kaam. I spoke to a few about some traditional styles and they said they can make a personalised order but had no samples/swatches of material, kaam, styles ect. that they work with to get an idea of how it will be.

A few of the shops such as Je Roche and Tehxeeb say they stock the designers but when you go there they don’t actually have any peices to show you. I’ve found that they can ‘order’ it for you but how can you place an order without actually seeing the design/material/style! I feel like if I’m going to just place an order with them I might as well do it online with the designer direct???

I’ve messaged loads of designers in Pakistani but none of them stock in the UK, they are happy to take measurements, payment and ship over but is it really worth the risk, also would it even look the same as the pics ect :bummer: The only chance to see some of the designs are usually at the Pakistan Fashion Week that happens in London but thats usually around November time each year.

So, if you have any luck with Hina Rasim or anything, would love to hear about it…as I’m trying to juggle if it will be economical to go to Pakistan and get my Bridal from a designer direct.

I understand the frustration. My wedding was in 2017. If you guys want I can send you pictures of my dress on private message. If you like the dress, I can put you in contact with my designer. She is not famous but her work was extraordinary. She designed all the motifs herself and put in a huge amout of effort. I must say I was extremely demanding in my wedding dress. I wanted an eastern-western style dress and she pulled it off perfectly, more than I had expected.
