Bridal dresses

What do you do with yours bridal lehengas gals ?? ( married gals )

Do you just keep them in a suite case or like to wear them on weddings / mehendis etc ???

i have seen many married girls wearing lehengas on weddings and they looked nice lakiN i have only wore my walima lehnga onse at my friends wedding but cant think of wearing the first days Red lehenga :o

Good topic. I have never worn any of my wedding outfits to other weddings, mainly because they are too 'dressy' and I feel like I would be drawing attention to myself. Although I have seen other woman wearing their wedding attire to other weddings.

I keep in hanging in my wardrobe at my parents house. If I have a daughter I'll give it to her to dress up in.

Incidentally there is a charity in the UK that takes wedding lenghas that people have donated and give them to young girls in india and pakistan to wear at their won weddings. I have the details at home somewhere if anyone wants them as I was going to donate mine but my stepmum literally had a heart attack at the idea.

^ I have the same issue but my mom told me to still wear them jsut dress them down.. IE small jewelry, shoes that arent shiney.. make sure your make up is lighter then the dhulan and hair style should be normal aur duppata sar par maath lo.

It actually works.. I wore my ruksathi outfit to a wedding and didnt stick out at all.

Thats a good idea about dressing it down Muniya.

i haven't attended any weddings..so all my stuff from last year or this year is sitting in my closet..maybe, i'll get a chance to wear them if i go to backhomes..but for now..they are just packed.

What my mom did once is kay she kept her chatapati ka gharara from her walima..and after 15/16 years..she made a new shirt for it..and used her gharara and dupatta from the walima time.

Well I am not married but my aunts who recently got married have worn their wedding outfits at the mehindis of close relatives (be it a sister, brother, or just anyone who gets married next in the family). They don't wear the dupattas on their heads, now that would stand out too much!!!

Thanks for reply gals :)

shahreen the idea about giving ur bridal dresses to charity is good !

Qrius the dress you wore at ur walima/rukhsati is so simple and unique that you can easily wear it at parties :) thats why i like the idea about halkay puhlkay bridal dresses ke bad meiN asani se pahnay jaa sakeeN !

Munyia thanks for some tips :-)

Mehroo those kind of dress you might can get away with wearing it again if you under dress them a bit like Muniya said. However, if I wear a wedding dress like this, I really don't think I can get away with wearing it again.

Majestica, one of my old neighbours had a wedding dress very similar to the picture you've posted......she did wear it again to a christmas ball but had it professionally dyed black.

This is the reason why my wedding dress will be simple Insahallah. I would hate to wear it only once and never again. My Nikkah dress was red and after wearing it, I am not fond of red colour so, I will not wear it again, I might give it to some charity, if my family lets me. :)

Actually I have this beautiful Indian lengha in golden brown colour, that I've never worn yet, its quite simple in the work its done on it, but I am thinking of getting some more bridal work on it and to wear it on my rukhsate. This way it will not go to waste and, I can keep this as a memory for moi.

thats great idea about simple bridal dresses ....lakiN kya karen when it comes to shade day every girl wants a lehenga or heavy kam ka gharara , good to see that nowadays some girls chose light dresses so they can easily use them again ! pashwaz ,haydrabadi dresses ,saris ,light ghararas in diff colors and outfits looks really nice as bridal dresses .

Mehroo, if a dress is heavy with all kind of golden embroidery done on it, it doesn't means it's automatically more beautiful, some such dresses are such a turn off for me !!

I was browsing the web searching bridal dresses and I've found this one to be absolutely gorgeous!

Ladies I have some Qs:

  1. I can't seem to see what she is wearing as jewerly, is it gold or something else.

  2. Do desi brides wear this colour on their rukshatee day?

1- It looks like oxidised gold or gold full of sand stone.
2- Yes brides do wear it on their wedding day. It may not be the current trend but is surely beautiful. There really isn't any set colour that brides wear anymore. I think every colour including black has been worn. Wear whatever suits you/pleases you. Unless you want to follow the trend and wear what everyone else is.

Mine isnt that heavy.. the lengha itself doesnt hafe much kaam on it an im savin it for my bhais weddng.. whenever thats gonna be...

I have seen my aunts, cousins, and sister wearing those lehngas at family weddings and the way they dress up makes them not only looking elegant but also quite different as per bridal dress.
they wouldn't even let us touch their bridal dresses not to mention giving to charity... I guess my sister could even give her everything in charity but not her wedding dresses including mayun ka jora and those green and yellow kanch ki curiyaN. well, everyone is different in their own way :)

Yes my sister had golden lehnga at her wedding,,, she was looking absolutely gorgeous but trust me thats a bad choice... why?? because all those camera lights and movies flashes make this color looking dull and my sister had wonderful pics with a black back ground but with no background those pics sucked.

choice is upto you, don't stick with red or golden lehnga... go for another color that suits you.

FF, GtG, thanks so much for replying!

GtG, I understand what you are saying, thanks for telling about the photo dilemma with golden colour, I wouldn't have thought of that.

Okay now I am totally confused. I have so many people saying different things. I thought that light and fair colour would suit my skin complexion and it normally does, but yesterday I visited a friend and she told me to wear dark colour as bridal dress, like dark blue, maron.

I really don't know what to do, what other choices of colour do I have ?

Red **, don't want this as I've already worn it on my Nikkah
**Green
, don't like green, maybe a real light pastel shade but not the normal green.

So does it mean that dark colour come off better in the pictures as light ones ?

Pistacho green, tea pink, move they all look good. Combo of beige and maroon, blue and maroon.
