Sabayasachi’s colour palette was, a bit unusual and deviated from the eastern standard. The designer sent down the ramp outfits that were mainly stitched in a combination of black and white. The highlight of Sabayasachi’s collection was his immaculate menswear including a solid-coloured achkan worn over a bright-hued, flared angarkha and paired with fitted churidars.
The premier day show of Bridal Asia 2011 featured Honey Waqar from Pakistan. It was for the the first time in the history of the event that a Pakistani designer was chosen for the opening and the reason given was the popularity of Honey Waqar with the Indian clientelle.
The theme of Honey’s collection was Baroque Juliet and she opened the show with Humaima wearing a light powder-pink short shirt paired with a long coat and the designer’s trademark stones and jewel embellishments complemented with flared Dhaka pants.
The segment was closed with Humaima Mallick in a superbly structured and dramatic black-and-white cocktail gown encrusted with crystals and semi-precious stones.
