Well the book I mentioned is about three desi best friends in UK. The book offers a perspective on each of their lives and how they juggle their cultural values with the changing trend. It's both funny and sad at the same time. You will be able to relate to each of them at some point during the book. That's the part I loved :)
'Life Isn't All Ha Ha Hee Hee' and 'What The Body Remembers' are both equally excellent reads but totally different kind of books, so it's hard to choose one over the other.
LIHHHH is more of a desi chick lit kinda book, a nice book to read on holiday or on a plane. Not too taxing on teh brain and very funny.
What The Body Remembers is more historical, set around Partition and very engrossing and 'deep'.
The book was boring .. I found 'Madras on Rainy Days' by Samina Ali far more interesting, even though it was way too unconventional (border line Tariq Ali stuff). Most people can relate to Monica far more than Samina but that what makes the former typical while the later interesting.
I quite enjoyed Brick Lane. We used to live in East London and I found I could easily relate to the things she discussed in the book, not directly but understood the surroundings and environment the characters found themselves in.
What the Body Remembers is an amazing and captivating book. You should definitely read that Sadzzz.
Got some more titles from this thread.
I’m currently reading ‘Ground beneath her feet’ by Salman Rushdi but it’s a bit too much to swallow (complicated). I want to read a light hearted book.
irem, i usually read for about an hour before going to bed.. its peaceful and i also have great sleep afterwards cus my mind is off day-to-day problems
