Have you used bribery to get things done in pak land?
When? Why?
In my knowledge most people do it. Feed my ignorance.

Re: bribery
No, even when some of the staff in public offices tried to pressurize us into doing so a number of times. We sent my sister a parcel from here to Lahore, for example, and they refused to give her the parcel making nonsense excuses like you have to pay xyz amount of tax because of this and that. She knew they were just making it up and they just wanted their share. It took her several trips to the office to finally get the parcel from them. She had to use a contact for that. So yes, using contacts and references is sometimes really necessary in Pakistan to get things done but bribing is a big no-no.
Re: bribery
You can’t get anything done in Pakistan without bribery.
Like cops love stopping Azad Kashmir residents when we cross into Pakistan. They come out with a load of rubbish about the vehicle. So, my dad decided instead to buy a Pakistani plate instead, lol.
Re: bribery
several years back…and I mean decades back…we had moved to Karachi with a container full of household items.
the container arrived and all duties and related fees had been paid. brother went to collect it with a truck and while he could see it sitting there in the shipyard, he was not permitted access to retrieve it. the guard was insisting that an additional “signature” was required on the paperwork and the person that needed to sign was not in. brother made repeated trips to the yard only to be turned away each time with the same or similar excuse…“saheb abhi nahin hain”, “saheb namaz parhnay ga’ay hain”, “saheb chutti pay Murree ga’ay hain, 2 mahinay baad ana”
the truck driver finally explained to my brother that the guard was just looking for some “chai, paani ka kharcha”
I know that my brother came home and explained to ammi that under no circumstances was he going to pay any rishwat. The container could stay there and rot. A month later the container came home but I think ammi had reached out to some contact that she knew to accomplish this. I was just happy to have my Nancy Drew Mystery books. ![]()
