My lo only breastfeeds since birth and from 6 months i have tried giving him baby food purees etc, but he rarely eats it.
Now he has started to get really fussy and gets up several times at night. So i had an appointment with ped he said to start formula milk to supplement because its hunger cry and he is not satisfied with my milk.
I have started using aptamil2 but he doesnt take even a sip of it i have tried with sippy cup, bottles. Have even try changing them but he doesnt likes it.
Before i have even tried bebelac but he doesnt likes it at all. I am not producing enough to satisfy his needs.
Any advise what should i do?
Which brand of formula worked for you?
Should i try cow or goat milk?
Re: breastfeeding supplement with formula!
Have you tried baby cereals? Those get mixed in breastmilk/formula. The taste will be more familiar, and he may be more willing to eat.
breastfeeding supplement with formula!
He doesnt take it any way. That is the main issue.
Re: breastfeeding supplement with formula!
Have you tried adding cerelac? Maybe he finds the formula too heavy, try finding a light formula. Also, talk to your doctor for more suggestions.
My baby doesnt take bland baby food. Maybe season it a little bit.
breastfeeding supplement with formula!
Any suggestions please.
Re: breastfeeding supplement with formula!
Can u mix your expressed feed with formula and give the baby. You can start off with 90% your milk and 10 percent formula and see how he reacts and work your way.
Have you tried tommee tippee bottles?
Re: breastfeeding supplement with formula!
I used nan, my baby was fine wth I, but she was having cereals and fruit purees. there are very good biscuits available milupa they dissolve easily milk try starting wth it, or farley rusk, when his taste develops then again try cereals n purees. but remember milk is primary food till 1 year.
Re: breastfeeding supplement with formula!
I had a tough time with my child who was exclusively bf initially and later would not take formula or bottle.
The only bottle that worked for us was Dr browns bottle.
We started by mixing formula in bm. Later the mix was about 50% bm and 50% formula, using this same mix for cereals as well.
Had to use a lot of distraction to feed the cereal with formula.
Our baby preferred only Similac.
I was so glad when we could start whole milk. Now we use Nestle strawberry flavor with whole milk.
Re: breastfeeding supplement with formula!
Use some flavoring in the formula…
breastfeeding supplement with formula!
I dont pump because i feed on demand so i dont have enough to pump.
Wil try changing bottles.
Re: breastfeeding supplement with formula!
I had this problem. My baby is now 9 months and he refused the bottle from about 3 weeks. i breastfed exclusively till 6 months and then the day came where i just couldnt do it anymore. it was getting me down because he was contantly hungry.
the problem i had was he would suck the teat of any bottle i tried, i bought sooo many bottles, beakers and then i tried the brown coloured teat, came with NUK botle. he took some water the first time and then i expressed a little, which he didnt take so well. i then bought ready made formula which is slighty sweeter than powdered formula and he took it after 8 hours of struggling, in between i gave him nothing else, no breastmilk. when he took it i stuck with it as i knew by offering him the breast he would end up refusing that bottle too as with breastfeeding they enjoy the closeness to mum.
if you decide o stop breast then u make sure its the right time and be persistant, they do end up taking it cos of hunger.
be careful when you do stop breastfeeding as your breasts will become tender and you have to express enough to make the pain go away but not enough to tell your body to make more milk.
Inshallah it’l work out for you
