I live in Canada and just had my baby via emergency c section about a week ago. I saw a lactation consultant before I was discharged from the hospital to get a proper latch and position.
My mom and mother in law breastfed differently and say that the way I do it is not what the right way is.
Now what do I do? Learn the “old school” way that my mom and mil use or keep up with what I was taught here.
What is the difference in what you're doing and what they are saying? There are many different positions that all work (it's worth learning them all)... which one/ones you go for are really which are most comfortable for both you and baby. You don't have to stick to one.
The way my mom and mil do it is kinda like the cradle position but u bring breast to baby and bend down. The baby isnt parallel to your body and is in ur arms. Apparently this is the way breastfeeding is done in Pakistan.
The cross cradle is working for me. But if the Pakistani way of doing it worked for our mothers then I’m confused and think maybe I should try it.
I bring baby to breast. That way we're both comfortable and no one ends up with a back ache.
Wouldn't bending down just hurt your back? Especially since breastfeeding can take a long time in the beginning.
i have to say i truly laughed out loud at your" feeding organ" … its ok to use the word BREAST you know. it would not be considered offensive or profane to do so. I assume you used the term as you did becuse your “thinking organ” was trying not to cause offense.
cross-cradle and football are the two holds i used. football is harder as they get bigger though.
and khatti and wendy are both right- ALWAYS bring baby to breast. bending over is going to give you horrible backache and posture.
plus bringing baby to breast ensures they have a proper latch which means they feed properly and you don’t get bleeding/sore/cracked nipples.
