i read on a site that did a myth and fact for several questions..
and i remember the 2 questions u have asked were both myths... u will be amazed at how many women believe ni the 2 myths and end up getting pregnant and horrified :D
I wont call it a 'myth'..!!
Its a scientific fact that breastfeeding decreases fertility...its all about the role of hormones ....and teh changes in hormones that occur after childbirth and during breastfeeding...
The thing is that every woman is different so for some lactational amenorrhea may be good thing to space out pregnancies and they can claim that breastfeeding prevents conception and for some women it can just be the opposite...
so,it is very much possible to get pregnant while breastfeeding because it does not totally shut down the fertility factors and all...
Nursing does affect your hormones and cycles, but that doesn't mean you will stop ovulating. In fact, you just won't know when you do! You can definitely get pregnant.
LOL .. ur poor mom ...must have been shocked to hear the good news.
oh yeah! my brother was 6 months and what makes it even funnier is that my grandmother (my mom's saas) had told her she couldn't get preggo while breastfeeding ahahahahaha
what a "saas thing" to say! :P
my poor gran. SHE must have been crazy shocked too!
oh yeah, and my cousin was 3 months old when my aunt was pregnant again with her brother.
Lactation can sometimes affect fertility by suppressing certain hormones that cause eggs to ripen. This happens infrequently and so the confusion surrounding the issue. It doesnt happen often and it doesnt happen to very many. So dont use it as a method of birth control!!
