For one moment, strip out from the debate the official administration policy and the hidden or not so hidden agendas attributed to the leaders in America. The sentiment of these American soldiers also represents the sentiment and motivation of the majority of the average American people. I.e. people willing to put their own lives at risk or the lives of their families and loved ones at risk for the selfless motive of "help[ing] the Iraqi people." Not for money. Not for oil. Not for power. Not for the pleasure of killing, oppressing, harassing or annoying.
You may cavalierly argue that the soldiers and American people are brainwashed, unintelligent, illiterate, stupid or what have you because you disagree with the policy. But as you take glee in the deaths of young Americans in your postings, maybe for one brief moment you might also take note that these are people willing to give up their lives under a belief that their sacrifice will help people of a different land experience a better life.
What is in the hearts of these soldiers represents the best of humanity. That many of them will be taken from us at such a young age is very painful. Such a difference from what is in the hearts of those who will take those lives.

Very well said MyVoice, but I fear that your explaination will not be heard, or will be cynically twisted into some trite debating point.
What seems to be missed here is that the US, and it's citizens has a deep and abiding hatred of tyrants and despots. Some, are not important enough to expend American lives for, others we engage to try to change behavior, or browbeat in hopes of change.
No one will truely understand the sacrifice that the US is willing to make in hopes of bettering the lives of Iraqi people. Our Billions, our sons and daughters, our National energy, the folks her cannot and will not understand. None of the soldiers trying to maintain peace owns stock in Halliburton, and no one has preached worl dominion to them.
In a strange way I am happier to see our troops cleaning out Fallujah, rather than getting picked off one by one. Bring it to a head with a two bit cleric-thug and let the chips fall where they may. They may not like us, but they will respect us. The true success of this will only be known 10 years from now.
