If however, they don't want to be "dominated" (as you put it), they should perhaps live "honorably" in their actual homeland, Pakistan, without any fears of domination or backlash. Makes sense doesn't it? If you wanna live here, don't bite the hand that feeds you, and also, don't have sympathies for people who do bite the hand that feeds you.
I am an expat Pakistani, and I strongly feel that before approving immigration to U.S., my fellow Pakistanis should be made to take an oath specifically stating that if they are ever distrubed by the Political affiliations of U.S., they can go home and live with honor, but not engage in acts of violence in U.S. or even have sympathies towards who do.

The papers are pretty inexcusable here as well. Reporting something obviously relevant to this story, Seattle Times opines: "Hundreds dead in Lebanon and Israel." No, idiots. Hundreds dead in Lebanon and Gaza Strip, handful dead in Israel. This has the obvious implication of painting any Muslims who get angry at what is happening in the Middle East as deranged because hey, both sides, as per the article, seem to be dying in equal numbers.
And what is with the bias? This American story has hit Canadian media. I don't remember a similar ruckus about a recent hate crime in Canada by a white person making it to American media.
White people are never pressured to distance themselves from hate crimes that a member of their race commits. If a Muslim commits a hate crime, Sir Dig A Lot, must I come out vocally to attack it? Why can't it be taken for granted that I don't support it, like it is with white people?
Isn't it an act of bias and racism, or hate if you want to go that far, that automatically assumes me complicit until I prove otherwise?

Its called evolution of religion. You don't see the Christian Inquisitions any more, there are no burning of people at the stake. Why can't this religion evolve and rule out their violent tendencies.

Sarah, If you look at *this *site you will find rampant hate of Jews, full time 24 hours per day. When a Muslim shoots up a bunch of Jews intentionally in the US, what do you expect?
Jewish hate is so downright *fashionable *that it is part and parcel of the daily Muslim reality. Muslims who haven't the slightest idea of the Jewish history are avowed Anti-Semites because they are expected to....
In the mean time, a Muslim is far more likely to to be killed by another Muslim with a Russian or Chinese made AK-47. But that fact just sort of slips past the reasoning of mainstream political Muslims.

When I say Muslims should disassociate themselves from these acts, I don't say visit your Western neighbours proactively and tell them that you don't condone this. I am not preaching people to be apologists, or ashamed of themselves, as Lajawab seems to believe. I ask Muslims to talk amongst themselves, disassociate yourself from these acts when you discuss it in your private discussions. This needs to be done becuase an overwhleming majority of Muslims is being misguided by people who present jsutifications and defelections when any such incident occurs.
Look at this thread alone, you can see how much resistence is being offered from Lajawab and his followers against blanket condemnation of such acts. They are deflecting the criticism with 'they did that first' arguments. Until and unless Muslims beging to condemn these acts in their private sittings, the younger generation will not learn to differentiate between expression of disagreemetns and acts of violence. Evolution will not come from outside, it has to occur from within.
Gupshup is dominated by Pakistani/Muslims, isn't it? Why should we not then condemn this act in NO UNCERTAIN terms, so that the young ones amongst us, or the ones who don't follow political affairs closely, leave this site with the impression that Islam does not condone these acts.
Acknowledging a problem is the first step toward solving it, and unfortunately, a lot of Muslims are either in denial, or are too insecure to admit that we have a problem. It is not I who is ashamed of being a Muslim. I am secure enough in my faith to acknowlege that we have a problem. It is Lajawab and his followers, who are ashamed of their religion. They are the ones too insecure about it, that admission of a problem will somehow nullify their beliefs.

Allow me to give you an example of Muslim insecurity. How about we attach a pollto this thread (Moderators?) , asking people whether they find this act 'acceptable' under the current geopolitical circumstances.
Just two options, 'Acceptable' or 'Not Acceptable' and if we somehow ensure that Lajawab and his followers are made to cast their votes, you will start seeing a problem with the results of this poll.
But this poll will not be started, because it shows our insecurity. Why should we have to apologize, we didn't do anything?

Christians are defensive. Jews are defensive. You are defensive too. Here's some Albert Camus for you (he wasn't Muslim, mind): "All tolerance stops when my mother is attacked."
It's little inherent in the religion, it's about human nature; we become defensive when we percieve an attack to something we hold dear. Go read Daniel Gilbert's NYT op-ed from earlier this week. A much better analysis than yours.
