I think it's ridiculous to say that a captain must have his place confirmed in the side.
Remember Mike Brearley of England? Average in the low 20's from what I remember. Couldn't bowl. But was an amazing captain, that took an average team and made them into a top class one.
Malik place is reasonably secure and I look forward to seeing what he can do.
