Shoaib, Asif exonerated in doping case
KARACHI: The PCB anti-doping appeal committee exonerated Pakistan fast bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif in a verdict on their appeals against bans under doping charges.
Justice Fakhruddin G Ebrahim, head of the anti-doping appeal committee, announced the decision at his chamber in Karachi on Tuesday noon.
Shoaib and Asif tested positive for banned anabolic steroid nandrolone in October and were later found guilty of doping by an inquiry tribunal set up by the PCB. The tribunal banned Shoaib for two and Asif for one year but the players refused to accept the decision saying that they never knowingly used any banned drugs. The three-man appeal committee had completed the process of hearing the banned players’ appeals on Monday.
Renowned lawyer Abid Minto represented Shoaib Akhtar during the hearings of the appeal committee while Asif’s case was fought by Aftab Gul, an accomplished lawyer who is also a former Test cricketer.

Indian news saying that they were exonnerated becuz the justice or judge didnt they took them knowingly, thats a crappy excuse if that was the excuse.

Shoaib and Asif acquitted
Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif have been acquitted by the tribunal appointed to review their drug ban appeal. The decision was made two to one with Hasib Ahsan and Justice Fakhruddin Ebrahim in favour of the acquittal.
“This appeal committee [therefore] holds that Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif will not be deemed to have committed a doping offence,” Ibrahim said. “The ban and punishment imposed by the earlier tribunal is hereby set aside as being contrary to the provision of laws.”
Shoaib, banned for two years, and Asif, for one year, appealed after they were found guilty for testing positive for the banned anabolic steroid nandrolone in dope tests that were internally conducted by the PCB at the end of September.
The lawyers of the two players presented arguments before the tribunal headed by Justice Fakhruddin G Ebrahim and including Hasib Ahsan, a former Test player, and Dr Danish Zaheer, the president of the Pakistan Sports Medicine Federation. Shoaib and Asif were twice made to fill out questionnaires sent by the members of the tribunal regarding their use of the drug.

What do you mean? Why can they not play in the current series, we have 4 ODI matches remaining and then another 5 in South Africa before the world cup. So why can they not join the team?

According to GEO, the 3rd member of the panel, Dr. Danish is not happy with the decision, since he wanted another dope test of the 2 players before any decision.
