Shahid Afridi has announced his `retirement’ from Test cricket. In an announcement that caught most people in Pakistan by complete surprise, Afridi told a local TV channel that he was planning to concentrate only on ODI cricket to ready himself for the World Cup in 2007.
But, in a typically Pakistani twist, Afridi said that he would reconsider his `retirement’ from Tests after the World Cup.

If its' true and his decision is based upon not being selected because of his differnces with Inzi he should have waited after the world cup. By then the 'dopey' inzi would not be in the team himself.

Personally, I think if he concentrates on ODI's it will be of great benefit to Pakistan. His retirement from test cricket is a loss but it was always difficult to accomodate two all rounders in a test team.
I agree with first part, he is very likely over-reacting. It is not good thing to quit cricket just because you have competition, even if it was "difficult" thats not good enough reason to quit. Afridi's quitting provides relief to Shoaib Malik and Razzaq (more than Malik) :D
And as per news from Cricinfo posted by Ganja, he would "reconsider" means that he had issues with Inzi on Test selections thats why he might comeback after WC'07 as Inz will VERY LIKELY quit post WC.

Inzimamam whos thick in the head and thick otherwise is getting away with too much first of all he is not the reason that the team is winning.I think he should be fired from the captaincy immediately.

Actually I wanted to say that there was some team rift during India series but since our beloved Waheed Khan didn't provide any "inside source" news so I didn't say it either :D now we know what happened ;)

What a shocking news, I believe for most of the fans. He was looking to be an integral part of both test and ODI squads lately. Perfromed wonderfully well with bat and ball during test series with Windies, Eng and Ind.
Afridi is not the sort of person who would retire just because too much test cricket is being played. He has often said in his interviews lately that it was his wish to prove to everyone that he is also a test match material, and finally he was getting what he wanted i.e. a test spot.
Not a good day for Pakistan cricket:(

No he is 30 I think ..a couple of years ago when india was here he told a friend of mine thats hes 28..but thats still young and he should not have retired

Why are we discussion his age instead of discussing the thread topic. Isn’t it obvious that his age is not the reason for his retirement.

WHOA, I just happened to click the thread on the main page because I saw "breaking news", didn't think it would be this big a surprise. But if he says he might reconsider it after WC, then fine. But truly shocking!
