KARACHI: Though all eyes in will be set up at the heavens but the chances of sighting the crescent for the Holy Islamic month of Ramadan on Wednesday are slim for the phase of new moon will be just 38 minutes long, Samaa.tv reported. “Owing to this short-lived conjunction or birth of new moon there is a very small possibility of the sighting of moon by telescope or naked eye,” Meteorological Department told Samaa. On the other hand, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, officially responsible for sighting of the new moon, will meet on Wednesday, June 17.
In north America, this moonsighting issue is always a nightmare. ISNA and ICNA both have different opinions and go as per that. Even my family is divided over that. Some want to go with ICNA and follow moon-sighting while my masjid folllows Fiqh council of NA or ISNA and they have a fixed calendar as per which Ramadhan is starting on thursday.
You’re supposed to follow the closest mosque to you for the dates. Soo…do whatever your muhallay ki masjid does. Moon sighting, Saudi, Pakistan, Turkey, ISNA, ICNA, doesn’t matter then. Isn’t that the easiest?
