Breaking News: No World Cup for Pakistan

Re: Breaking News: No World Cup for Pakistan

They lost their case when they couldn't provide the security promised to Sri Lankan team.

Re: Breaking News: No World Cup for Pakistan

I am not surprised.........

I knew pak won't be able to host the cup after lahore attacks :(

Re: Breaking News: No World Cup for Pakistan

goes to show the partiality of the agencies behind this motive, yet still something for us as Pakistanis to read through and counter.

Re: Breaking News: No World Cup for Pakistan

Well first thing ICC said was 'If Pakistan cannot hold a small series in Pak and holding it in UAE then how come Pakistan can manage WC" ... but what about india ? if they can't hold an ICL cup then how come they can hold WC? shouldnt the same rule be applied here ? ... today election ka bahana, may be something else while WC... who knows!!!

About money... well to be honest I am not sure... but once Moin Khan said it could be because india is open in providing alcohol and girls while its difficult in Pakistan for these players, so it could be a reason among many ... but if it was solely the matter of money then Pakistan should have given whatever it cost so save its dignity and pride! ...

Re: Breaking News: No World Cup for Pakistan

Whats the need for a bahana?? during the election, the govt couldnt give enough security to the players, and so acted quite well in letting that known, rather than take whatever it cost to save its 'dignity and pride'.

and you really think India is Las Vegas? there are many states where alcohol is banned, and they were going to play in them too. and sex-workers havent got legalised yet. they are as much undercover as in Pakistan.
PLUS heard of the famed Heera Mandi aka Shahi Mohalla? :)

Re: Breaking News: No World Cup for Pakistan

A sensible decision by ICC. It would have been more humiliating if they let Pakistan host and teams would refuse to play their matches here. Remember 1996 WC?

Re: Breaking News: No World Cup for Pakistan

**Intikhab alam think the decision is unjust .......

Intikhab Alam, the Pakistan coach, has said that the move to strip Pakistan of the rights to host the 2011 World Cup is "unjust" and a blow that, he said, would be hard to overcome.

"I am hugely disappointed," Alam said in Dubai. "Pakistan has been singled out for security, which is unjust and has hit our cricket with a big, big blow that will be hard to overcome for years."

What the hell he expected after attack on Srilankan team?

Re: Breaking News: No World Cup for Pakistan

Your argument is pretty common place and apparently compelling among Pakistanis, but I do not buy it and not because I am an Indian. As an NZ player recently said - "you cannot make money if you are dead"...

Now let me say something politically incorrect but which is an obvious truth - India is NOT an ISLAMIC country with a Muslim majority. On that basis alone, foreigners would feel safer in India than in Pakistan. Whether this is right or wrong is a different subject.

Secondly, the extremist elements in India have no beef against foreigners unlike in Pakistan. The only time foreigners were attacked in India - we all know who was responsible.

Let me go out on a limb and say that if Pakistan was not India's neighbor , IPL would never have moved to SA. Foreigners now have a reason to feel unsafe in India but only because of Pakistan based elements (state or non-state actors !!). They have nothing to fear from Shiv Sena/RSS for sure.

Re: Breaking News: No World Cup for Pakistan

Your argument holds true to a large extent but foreigners (I believe) would have no qualms about playing in countries like Malaysia, Morocco, UAE and Turkey. Morocco and Turkey are amongst the most popular tourist places for British people. Egypt (despite frequent bombings in Sharm el-Sheikh etc.) is a popular tourist destination, thanks to the pyramids. Westerners also thronged to beaches of Indonesia (before Bali happened!)

By the same analogy, Pakistan is a victim of terrorism because of its geopolitical position. Although this mess is partly our own created, some of the circumstances were just beyond our control. Had there been no Soviet invasion and subsequent Talibanisation of Afghanistan, had there been no lingering Kashmir dispute and problem with India, radicalisation of certain elements would never have happened in Pakistan. This heroin and kalashnikov culture esp. in NWFP is a legacy of that Soviet-Afghan war

Re: Breaking News: No World Cup for Pakistan

*n wat about Dubai ??
*

Re: Breaking News: No World Cup for Pakistan

^ Well I mentioned UAE and Dubai is part of UAE

Re: Breaking News: No World Cup for Pakistan

Alam's disappointment is understandable but he should also look at the ground realities; when security institutions themselves have repeatedly been targeted by extremist nutcases over the past so many years, how can any international team feel safe in Pakistan.

Forget others, we are having to provide unprecedented security to our own team in Pakistan...

Perhaps the sheer barbarism, the number of suicide bombings and beheadings etc. has desensitised us....but we cannot expect others to be numb to it all.

About time we moved on from such emotions and accepted UAE as an alternative home in the near future

PCB liable for stripping off World Cup matches: Waqar Updated at: 0339 PST, Tuesday, April 21, 2009

LAHORE: Former captain Pakistan cricket team Waqar Younis has accused PCB and the government of Pakistan of responsible for stripping off World Cup matches.

Talking to media here on Monday, former skipper Younis said we are helpless under prevailing circumstances that we can do nothing much against this ruling from International Cricket Council (ICC) because Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is the one which let ICC pronounce this ruling.

He said after the liberty terrorist attack on Sri Lankan cricket team, the provision of security for foreign players is questionable in Pakistan.

Waqar proposed that to avert security threats, PCB must start an IPL type league cricket tournament in Pakistan or else World XI must tour Pakistan.

When asked about Pakistan-Australia cricket series commencing from April 22, former skipper said this is the best chance that Pakistan cricket team has met to defeat gigantic Australia as national team is much balanced this time besides weather conditions and pitches in UAE are also favorable for Pakistan.

Re: Breaking News: No World Cup for Pakistan

PCB was supposed to provide Sri Lankan team with VVIP security which they failed to do. But even if they were provided the VVIP security the fact that they were attacked is a good excuse to not tour Pakistan and take world cup away from Pakistan. PCB or even the government can't prevent such things from happening.
