** The second season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will not be held in India. At the BCCI working committee meeting today in Mumbai, a decison was taken to stage the tournament outside the country “because of the extraordinary situation existing this year.”
**
** “Under the given circumstances, the BCCI is not in a position to either play a truncated IPL or to cancel the second edition of the IPL. It is a matter of great regret that, in the prevailing atmosphere, where the government is expressing concern for providing security to the IPL matches, the BCCI is left with no other option but to conduct the Indian Premier League in another country,” the board stated in a media release…**
And what happens to the Pakistani players who were cut by the IPL teams following Pak government's refusal to give them security clearance?
I think the lower salaried but highly valuable players like Sohail Tanvir will be reinstated since they were only suspended, not released. The high dollar players like Afridi, Asif, Akhtar, Shoaib Malik will be still out of luck.

that's what I thought as well that players like Tanvir and Gul who were just suspended will be able to get NOC from Pak Govt. However according to Lalit Modi there was a deadline which has already passed for announcing squads and so no one from Pakistan will be playing regardless of the venue.
In another news - India's general elections will be held outside of India due to security reasons.
Seriously though, the decision to take IPL outside India will rake in even more mulla for the BCCI I think. There will be enhanced made for TV glamour, glitz and razzamattazz and this will be lapped up by the desi TV audience. And the Indian diaspora in SA/England would ensure that the stadiums have a sizeable crowd too.
I have a feeling this would turn out to be an even bigger success which would mean that IPL may become a foreign event forever.
on a side note,, isnt England also vulnerable to security... as per the reports that England based organizations have actually financed the recent Mumbai Attacks

Well, if the home ministry says, then it will be.
To consistantly fill 36? venues in IPL would be tough I guess.
Honestly, I'm very surprised of indian officials on having the consent so easily to let IPL be played outside India. May be its becuz of such huge money involved that they are not ready to take any risk?! But will they be earning the same in SA?
