LAHORE: Pakistan umpire Ahsan Raza was fast recovering Thursday after undergoing major surgery for serious bullet injuries during an attack on Sri Lanka’s cricketers, a family members said. The 34-year-old Ahsan, who was reserve umpire for the abandoned second Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, was behind the team bus when gunmen attacked the entourage on Tuesday. He was travelling with Simon Taufel and Steve Davis – Australians who were field umpires of the match – and Pakistani television umpire Nadeem Ghouri and umpires’ manager Abdul Sami. Their driver was killed. “Ahsan is fast recovering,” his elder brother Mohsin Ahsan told AFP. “We thank the Almighty that he saved our brother and thank everyone for their support. My brother is a kind and loving chap and has three daughters,” he said. Ahsan was hit in the back by a bullet that seriously injured his lungs and liver, and underwent two major operations. Ahsan played 21 first class matches as a talented wicketkeeper who also used to bat lower in the order. He turned to umpiring four years ago, making his debut as an international reserve official in the series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in 2008-09. afp

Hope he makes a speedy recovery..

LAHORE: The Pakistani Hockey team on Wednesday visited Liberty roundabout to pay tribute to martyred policemen of the Elite Force who laid down their lives protecting the Sri Lankan cricket team and International Cricket Council match officials.

The players accompanied by secretary, Pakistan Hockey Federation, Mohammad Asif Bajwa and team coaches, Shahid Ali Khan and Kamran Ashraf, offered ‘fateha’ for the departed souls and laid wreaths on the spot.

They said the bravery and sacrifice of the martyred police officials will always be remembered.

They strongly condemned the attack and termed it as cowardly act. They said due to this unfortunate incident the future of Pakistan sport hangs in the balance as foreign teams will now be even more reluctant to visit the country.

The whole nation needs to come together and shun extremist nutcases like this…

^ So far nothing from cricket team. Why haven't they done anything to pay respect to the people who lost their lives.

They should take time out of their busy schedule to pay tribute.

Miandad in gung-ho mood over Broad’s remarks about security

I guess Broad twisted facts a bit but then no one can also really say that it was presidential-level security

"Attempts to calm the situation were not helped by Javed Miandad who called for the ICC to ban Broad from officiating. “The ICC must ban Broad from standing in any matches,” he said. “He has intentionally tried to damage the image of Pakistan and isolate it as a cricket nation. He is twisting things. He is trying to scare away teams from playing in Pakistan.”

**supporting PCB stance in this matter is **actually something unexpected from Miandad … keeping in mind his grudge against butt

^ True but I wonder if Miandad would still say the same if his Bhanja was not in the good books of PCB
