When Mrs.Ghandi lifted the emergency in India, from that point India started progressing big time both economically and socially. May this time Pakistan also will do so instead of falling back into the back cycles.

It is not because of gandhi lifting emergency. It is because of government getting bankrupt in 1991 and Narasimha rao and manmohan singh initiating reforms later that got things moving(stress on the word "moving" and not rapid development). In short, indian government started abandoning socialist policies in economy.

Exactly… And its also India’s commitment to Democracy despite all the hiccups… India had all the problems with democracy that Musharaf suddenly faced, rising militancy, an independant and vocal judiciary and opposition etc… But Unlike Musharaf, who suddenly destroyed all precepts to democracy, Indians perservered in Democracy and are now a stable a progressive country.

Imagine what would happen if Pakistan were given the Nuclear deal India was given and the opposition in Pakistan did what the communists did in India.. Musharaf would have all the opposition arrested, dissolve the govt and go thtough with it unilateraly on the excuse that the opposiotion was trying to destroy the country.. :rolleyes:
