It was 5 on the Richter scale but of a longer duration. No news of any causalities yet.

Quake jolts northern Pakistan

A moderate earthquake jolted Pakistan’s capital and the northwest Sunday, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injury.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake measured magnitude 4.9 and was centered in the Hindu Kush mountains of neighboring Afghanistan, a sparsely populated region where earthquakes are common.
The epicenter was 220 miles northwest of Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar, said Tahir Hassan, an official at Pakistan’s Seismological Center in Peshawar.
Residents felt brief tremors in Islamabad, Peshawar and the towns of Kohat and Chitral in North West Frontier Province. Police in Chitral said they had no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
In October 2005, a magnitude-7.6 quake devastated Kashmir and northern Pakistan, killing about 80,000 people and leaving hundreds of thousands homeless.

Allah khair kare - Pehlay say he they have so many problems and on top of that they are uncertain of their lives because of these natural disasters and i believe it would be so very cold in the north these days...life is so brutal for these people; we are so very fortunate Mashallah that we lead such comfortable lives...but Allah in per bhi apni rehmat bunayeh rukhay.

At least after every three months, the earth in northern areas of Pakistan jolts. It is very common here I think. Some are minors and some are majors. And some are devastating 8.10.2005, 1.2.1991!
