Intelligence found no link of Dr. Aziz with OBL, Mullah Omar treatment. All charges are poof!
Detained Pakistani Doctor Is Released
LAHORE, Pakistan- A Pakistani doctor detained last month for suspected links with al-Qaida and Afghanistan’s ousted Taliban regime was released Tuesday, and said he was questioned by CIA and FBI agents about chemical weapons and Osama bin Laden.
“Thanks be to God, I have been cleared of all the charges,” Dr. Amer Aziz said after emerging from his home in the eastern city of Lahore.
The orthopedic surgeon was detained by security officials on Oct. 21 on suspicion that he treated Taliban members in hiding during trips to Afghanistan. He had been held incommunicado ever since, but was never formally charged.
The doctor’s detention sparked protests in Lahore and the capital Islamabad, and supporters demanded authorities bring him to court, or at least say where he was being held.
Aziz said he was held in the capital, Islamabad, during his detention, and questioned by Americans who told him they were from the FBI and CIA. Aziz denied making any trips to Afghanistan after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, and said he never treated any Taliban or al-Qaida leaders.
Several Pakistani newspapers have reported Aziz was wanted on suspicion he treated al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden and Taliban chief Mullah Mohammad Omar.
“No such V.I.P was under my treatment,” a relaxed Aziz said outside his home. **“I just treated patients without distinction of religion, faith, color or race.” :k: **
Aziz said he was not poorly treated during his detention, but frequently questioned by authorities.
He said his interrogators had accused him of **“assisting al-Qaida and the Taliban leadership in the preparation of biological, chemical, radiological and nuclear weapons.” **
“They also questioned me on the designs and plans of al-Qaida,” he said.
Aziz’s brother, Imran Aziz, told The Associated Press the doctor was brought home in the middle of the night by security agents who did not identify themselves.
“His eyes are red and swollen due to sleepless nights,” Imran Aziz said.
Aziz’s mother, who appeared with him Tuesday outside the home, had filed a petition with the High Court in Lahore seeking her son’s release.
“I am just thankful to Allah Almighty that my son is back with me,” she said.
