Brazil: There won't be Mideast peace as long as U.S. is 'guardian'

I guess President Silva summed it up pretty well.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Monday demanded the end of what he called U.S. "guardianship" of the Middle East.
"There will not be peace in the Middle East as long as the United States is the guardian of peace. It is necessary to involve other countries in negotiations (between Israel and the Palestinians)," he said.

Brazil has long volunteered to play such a role. Earlier this month it recognized Palestine as a sovereign, independent state within its borders prior to the 1967 Six-Day War.
Lula also slammed economic sanctions imposed on Iran over Tehran’s controversial nuclear programme, and emphasized that they could have been avoided if the United States had accepted a deal brokered with Iran by Brazil and Turkey.
Iran says its uranium-enrichment program is purely meant for energy generation, but much of the West fears it is designed to build a nuclear bomb. The United Nations Security Council has hit Iran with several rounds of sanctions over the issue.
Turkey and Brazil have not only supported Iran’s right to pursue peaceful nuclear projects, but also were the only two countries that voted against the latest Security Council resolution on Iranian sanctions.
Lula recalled that before he travelled to Iran in May he got a letter from President Barack Obama with US “conditions” so that Tehran could avoid sanctions. Lula said these conditions were accepted by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, so sanctions were not in order.
“The conditions that Ahmadinejad accepted were exactly the same as those proposed by Obama. In spite of that, countries on the UN Security Council decided to punish Iran. It was necessary to punish Iran because Brazil and Turkey got into ground that was not apt for emerging countries but was only reserved for the Security Council,” Lula said.
Still, he was sure Brazil had acted appropriately. “Brazil does not have to ask permission to do what it thinks must be done,” he said.

Re: Brazil: There won’t be Mideast peace as long as U.S. is ‘guardian’

So who and what is stopping Brazil to take the leading role ? It is not like US has pointed missiles toward Brazil and said don’t even think about brokering a deal between Israel and Palestine or else. :hmmm:
Please educate me to the dynamics of how Brazil cannot take the leading role and be guardian of peace process in the ME. I fine this article very intriguing but it has the above big hole which I am trying to understand.

Re: Brazil: There won't be Mideast peace as long as U.S. is 'guardian'

Simple. The Israelis will not agree to deal with them. They have always gone to the US. Even the EU has been rebuffed by the Israelis. Secondly the Turkey Brazil deal with Iran on nuclear fuel is a perfect example of US "Guardianship" of the middle east.

Re: Brazil: There won't be Mideast peace as long as U.S. is 'guardian'

There is famous book called "The Israel lobby"(you might have already read it); and in the book what the authors try to explain is the reason the Mid-East dispute has not been resolved yet is b/c of the right wing/extremists (usually born again Christians) in the U.S. These right wing groups(local churches) do not favor any resolutions which are not deemed pro-Israeli and threaten to not vote for the political party who takes the initiative of resolving the Mid-East conflict. Ofcourse, both the major political parties are afraid to loose such a big voting bloc and hence the Mid-East conflict continues...

Re: Brazil: There won't be Mideast peace as long as U.S. is 'guardian'

zionists should pack their bags and move to germany and poland where they belong, and there wont be peace in middle-east till there is even one zionist jew in the Holy land of Palestine.

Re: Brazil: There won't be Mideast peace as long as U.S. is 'guardian'

USA's Israel policy is stifled by two things. The large percentage of democratic fundraisers are Jewish Americans and thus Democracts have a pro-Israel stance. Also, for Republicans, a large voter base for them is the Christian Evangelical Vote and they believe that all of Palestine must be under Jewish rule for the Messiah to return.

As for other countries taking the lead role. The only candidates are China, India, Russia, EU, and Brazil.

China only cares about its economy and stays neutral and does not get involved in disputes. India has too many disputes of its own to get involved anywhere else. Russia has the potential to be a major middle eastern player but lacks the economic might to back it up. EU still plays second fiddle to USA to get seriously involved. Brazil is too far away and too irrelevant to force any major change in the region.

The only major player for the foreseeable future is USA. But what is happening in USA is the Democratic Jews are increasingly turning away from Israel's heavy handed policies and are becoming openly critical of Israel. And Many American Generals are also realizing that their pro-Israel stance is gravely harming their military positions in the region. It will be a slow process but slowly America will come around to realize what Israel has become and to reign it in.

Re: Brazil: There won't be Mideast peace as long as U.S. is 'guardian'

this all is so untrue.Zionists are gonna run cause they cant deal with Hamas and Hizbollah militia...Plain and Simple

Re: Brazil: There won't be Mideast peace as long as U.S. is 'guardian'

Saudi, Egypt, Jordan, etc. are all totally dependent on America for their own security, and then they expect Zionist America to help them deal with the Nazionists terrorist state. That's not just naive, that's stupid and dumb.

The writing is on the wall. The Palestine cause is lost if ME Arabs continue with their dumb hope of America being a negotiator in this conflict. But it will not happen because ME Arab dictators need America to continue suppression of their own populations.

Hamas, Hizbullah, Syria and Iran continue to offer resistance against this evil nexus of America and Zionist racist criminal state, but other ME Arabs are working with the same Israelis to undermine all their efforts.

Mir kya saada hein, beemar hue jis ke sabab
usi attaar ke launday se dawa lete hein

Saudis even begged America to attack Iran and Hezbollah.

I never expected Nazionist terrorist state or America to do anything for Palestinians. So in my view the villains in this conflict include not just America and Zoinist racists, but also Saudis, Egyptians, and Jordanians.

Re: Brazil: There won't be Mideast peace as long as U.S. is 'guardian'

When it comes to international diplomacy, details are everything. Never under estimate the fine prints.

Re: Brazil: There won't be Mideast peace as long as U.S. is 'guardian'

currently their is no state powerful enough that can confront the United States that is why it can manipulate and abuse the muslims including palestine. Until the muslim people realise their strength is in their unity as one bloc and untill they remove the corrupt rulers then the powers like usa will divide and rule us and we will continue to be weak and humiliated.

At least brazil speak some truth about the situation our ****** rulers cannot even do that!
