Bravery of Baloch Extremists

The biggest beneficiaries of Panipat were the Sikhs. While Marhattas were greatly weakened, the Mughals were finished. Sikhs filled the power vaccum. While Marhattas retook Delhi and Sikhs reined supreme towards the West.

Pakthuns on this side of Khyber never fared well with the Durranis either. When the Sikhs took over trans-Indus regions they did not maintain permanent posts in several Southern regions like Akora Khattak, Bannu and Lakki Marwat. The Sikhs used to raid in general to collect tribute/taxes from locals.

When the Sikhs would leave, the Durranis would show up and in the name of the Ruler of Kabul would extract from the locals what little the Sikhs had failed to collect. (From Travels in Panjab, Afghanistan and Baluchistan during the Reign of Ranjit Singh by George Masson). Until the British showed up these areas were subjected to double taxation, first by Sikhs then by Durranis.
