Wrong, Khan of Kalat are NOT Pashtun or Baloch. The Khans of Kalat are Brahvi (Brohi). They are of a Dravidian Race. Their language is related to TAMIL language of Southern India. I have personal friend from the Khan’s family.
After they defeated the Pashtun and Baloch tribes (read Brig Haroon Rashid history of Pashtons) they married Baloch and Pashtun women and “Balochified” themselves and also use Pashtun nomenclature (Ahmed-Zai). Ahmedzai comes from Mir "Ahmed " Begler Begi Kambarani I (one of the earlier Wali of Kalat), his children started calling themselves Ahmedzai.
They are Kambarani branch of the Brahvi. Their language is even now very closely related to Tamil.
The fact is ‘Balochistan’ was ruled the Non-Baloch Brohis (Khans of Kalat) for centuries. The State of Kalat received tribute from all Baloch and Pashtun tribes nearby.
Only after Pakistan was formed that Baloch tribes gained more recognition. Baloch areas of Mastung, Lasbela joined Pakistan even before the Brohi sardars of Kalat agreed. And Pakistan treated the Baloch with more affinity than the Brohis of Kalat.
