Any one frequent the Bradford Mela over the weekend. I was there on Saturday. It was nothing special and the weather was pretty crap with frequent showers.

I do think that the Bradford boys pushed it a bit far at what is supposed to be a family event. First i thought it was a little strange to see 1 litre vodka bottles littered around the main stage where families were standing. Upon getting closer i saw that Paki guys were openly walking around with see through carrier bags that had whiskey in them. This was around 3pm.

At the front of the stage the guys were obviously out of it because they were jumping around like lunatics. Twice i saw vodka bottles thrown at a male dancer. Then one of the guys (clearly drunk btw) decided to get on stage and dance like an idiot. He was up there with about 10 dancers, and they just carried on like normal. After a few moments of dancing solo he starts to get close to a female dancer and grabs her. She moves away and one of the male dancers steps in his way. The guy gets aggresive with him so the dancer runs off. Im expecting security to come on at this point but nothing happens. The dancers try to carry on but the guy grabs the female again and this time they all just get off and security finally comes and drags the guy away. The Sony Entertainment cameras were rolling during all of this.

I didnt stay there for long so i dont know if anything else happened. Ive heard of trouble at melas before, but its always been in the evening. I think theres a time and place for people to “chill out” but a family orientated event is not it.

Yeah nd I bet ppl thought the guy did well trying to grab the female dancer coz she deserved it :rolleyes:

Too many pakis in one place, never a gud idea :nono1:

These Mela's are full of young losers who are there just to cause trouble, Thats why I just stay away from Mela's.

The Mela's are free which is another reason why these idiots just turn up.

If I want to take my family anywhere I just take them to somewhere where I pay a little but where my family will actually enjoy their day out...

best to stay away from them then, I've never really been to a mela in the UK before and I was thinking of going to the London Mela, but I think i'll stay away now hehe!

Why do some idiotic boys have to ruin it for the rest of us hey!

I last went when Abrar-ul-haq performed and that was about 3 years ago. I wish they could create more of a family environment, and I wish it wasn't free so that all the losers could not turn up.

Bradford's Peel Park was taken over this weekend for the colossal pageant of all things Asian, attended by people from all over the country.

Some of the biggest names in Asian music and culture graced the several stages set up around the arena.

And despite a downpour early on Sunday afternoon, the mood remained sunny and bright as revellers lapped up the sounds, sights and smells of the Indian subcontinent.

An estimated 67,000 people turned up on Saturday with a further 50,000 yesterday.

This year the acts were spread across four stages with the Urban Stage and Mango Stage, in particular, attracting hundreds of people.

Perhaps the biggest draws were renowned R&B producer Rishi Rich and singer Jay Sean. Both sets saw people young and old dancing in the fiery afternoon sun.

As well as the singing and dancing there was a wide variety of stalls selling all manner of spicy cuisine.

Among them was a stall from the Islamic Relief charity which was donating every penny of its sales towards the work it carries out in Africa and South Asia.

As well as currys and kulfis, some revellers tucked into good old-fashioned ice creams in the sunshine.

The weather took a turn for the worse on Sunday with storm clouds and rain blighting the early afternoon.

Chenai forced off stage by bottle attack

X-Factor star Chenai Zinyuku had to cut short her performance at the Bradford Mela after thugs threw bottles at her.

Today the 20-year-old Bradford singer pledged she would never perform at the Mela again after experiencing an "aggressive and intimidating" atmosphere.

Event organisers have played down the trouble, saying it was "a minor incident" caused by a small group of troublemakers.

No alcohol was served anywhere on the festival site but visitors were allowed to bring in alcohol freely.

Chenai said: "At first, there was just one or two bottles being thrown but then they started coming fast.

"That's when I decided to go off the stage because it was getting dangerous. There were glass bottles and plastic bottles coming towards me all sorts.

*"The security didn't seem to be very good and they couldn't handle it.

"It just looked like a lot of drunk young boys who didn't know how to handle it.

"Everyone wants to promote Bradford but when people come and play at the biggest event in Bradford look what happens."

She said the United Voices Gospel Choir, which was on before her, also suffered at the hands of the bottle-throwing minority and had to be moved to another stage by the event organisers.

One Mela visitor, Stuart Royle, of Wyke, said he was so disgusted with some of the behaviour that he doubted he would return to the event next year.

Mr Royle said the choir had been forced to end its act after only performing two songs because of bottle-throwing.

He said: "I have enjoyed going to the Mela for several years and have talked highly about it to friends from outside our city. Regrettably I don't think I can talk so highly of the Mela now."

Bradford police said six arrests were made at the Mela over the weekend. All were for public order offences and no charges have been brought.

A police spokesman said: "There were three arrests on Saturday and a further three on the Sunday. Given the amount of people at the event this is incredibly low and officers who were on duty say it was a good-natured event."

Bradford Council said 117,000 people attended the event in Peel Park. It said the new-look Mela, with its five stages, had attracted many families.

A Council spokesman said: "The team had worked extremely hard to make it much more family orientated.

"This year's site had been carefully planned out with a number of new stages added plus a designated family area, which was very well attended.

An £8,000 operation has also started to return the site to normal.

They think they are cool....but they are just a bunch of losers.

I went to Manchester Melas, Heaton Park Melas...they seem fine. No troubles there.

But i think Bradford is particularly troublesome.

I remember when junoon performed, the lead singer was abused...and he sang

' pakistan hea humara, bradford hea tumhara...' and sort of motioned to the crowd like stick it
