Has anyone had braces? How long do you have to have them on?
Do they hurt?
About 2 years and YES it hurts especially in the begining.
First there was a moustache and a beard problem
and now crooked teeth??
whatsup with all this huh? i think you need to start believing in yourself more and accept yourself for who you are and dont worry too much about changing the way you look, because remember beauty should run deeper than the skin!
over and out!
^but what if these teeth can cause potentially harmful complications later on?
i'm too against the over-use of braces but I do think they do serve a purpose...

Nesico what do you mean these teeth can cause
*potentially harmful complications later on? *
hey lily :wawe:
iv had my braces removed around an year ago…they work wonders for far apart or crooked teeth.
it hurts a bit when tightened by the denstist on every visit but max for 2 days ![]()
its basic problem is oral care..you have to be very specific about it…get brushed made for braced teeth..strong tooth pastes and mouthwashes.
also get a check up done if u get a cut inyour mouth bcz of the wire…it can cuase ulcer if not treated properly..
the duration depends on you r teeth’s ability and how fast the straighten…g’luck on beautifull teeth ![]()
Belle, allow me to answer your query. For young people, mal-aligned teeth apart from giving cosmetic problems can also cause dental problems later on which can interfere with speech, chewing and may cause painful conditions and cause other dentition in the surroundings to grow in unwanted directions.

Therefore, it always helps to spend some money and see a proper dentist (an orthodontist to be more specific) who can diagnose and correct the problem before it gets too late, (or a beauty salon expert or an endocrinologist specializing in hirsuitism- hint hint for someone!) ;)
SCS has answered it mostly…
since the new generation children eat a lot of sweets candies and all other stuff, there teeths are more prone too complications like mal-allignment, which can cause inflammation, infections etc.
Never had them! :k:
Braces themselves are quite alright. The worst they get is when you have to go back to get them tightened - but they get loose again in a few days time.
However the worst is in the very very beginning before you even get braces -- it's when you get the spacers. (ie Between the molars).
Some people get them and some dont. If you don't them then you're one of the lucky ones. It hurts like hell because this is the ever suck drastic change your teeth/mouth has ever had. Spacers hurt so much that you can't even sleep - even after taking plenty of tylenol.
But by and by braces themselves are perfectly bearable. Ofcourse your friends teasing you being Train Track is a whole separate issue ;)
Hmmm uff don't even get me started on them
Well for me. It went on for some time.
I started my treatment when I was 13. And it hurt as hell since my teeth were really fcuked up so I had to wear a head gear. I got them off went I was 15. Well then I wore my retaners for like abut 6 months and after that I lost them. I didn't go back to my dentist, bohat lazy hoona. so My teeth started to move back the way they were. Then I had to get them again and so I just got them off last october. Now MASHALLAH my teeth are fine all lined up straight. And yes I still have to wear my retaners the doc says prolly for another 5-7 years but only at night. So it really depends on your situation I mean how bad are your teeth and stuff......

That's almost exactly what happened to me. Except I got another retainer immediatly. Everything else is the same. Uncanny!

this actually depends on wt kind of problem you have.. I didnt had any alligning problem, But I had spacing in my teath... so when I got braces it hurt like hell in the begining.... I had trouble even when I was eating noodles... :( but I have to tell you.. it was worth it!
I had them for 1 year.. then retainers for 6 months all day, and for one year only at nights..
Coolheat so that got rid of the gaps?
it sure did!!
what about the cost ? im considering braces but not sure if i can affoard them or not...
and no my insurance doesnt cover dental.
So whats the price like here in the US ?
although I had teere meere teeth, I never had braces.....
my teeth grew seedha while I grew. :p
Well, I had gaps too and I still have them ( those bohhay baarian) God, I never like them. My mom never allowed me to put on braces as she was of the view' jis ko pasand karna hoga woh karlay ga' ( I don't agree with that either 'coz we don't always do things for others or to please others, atleast not me)
Got them finally when I was quite old, I mean 23, had them for a year. THey don't hurt except :( when the doctor removes the chain or tightens them. I lost so much weight 'coz I couldn't eat anything. However, I had them removed as I got scholarship and had to leave and sighs , all the money and the time and the pain didn't help much.
In the U.S., the insurance doesnot cover any problem that one student has related to eyes and teeth. However, in U.S. , you have to pay $ 4000 for the braces where as in Pakistan it varies starting from 30,000 onwards.
$4000 ???!!)!)!)!!)!)!
looks like i`ll have to keep my funky munky teeth :)
