Re: BP or salicylic acid?

salicylic acid all the way. BP is very oxidizing and it can cause damage if used in high strengths. proactiv which uses BP is now knwn to cause some patients acne scarring (pitting) because it is too strong.

Re: BP or salicylic acid?

salicylic acid...worked very well for me!

Salicylic acid is used to shed and prevent them from clogging pores and BP is used to kill bacteria that causes acne. For best results it's always a combination of both..

Re: BP or salicylic acid?

^ Agree. I use salicylic as a toner and BP as a over-night treatment. I'm not an expert at this but from what I've read, salicylic is a peeling agent so your skin will shed and marks will diminish. BP doesn't allow bacteria to grow so when you use it, you are preventing future breakouts. A combination of both will be more effective in the long-run.
In case you are interested, I purchased my acne kit from platinumskincare.com upon recommendation from fellow guppies. The treatment includes 3% salicylic toner and microdermabrasion cream. You alternate between the two as you do NOT apply acid on freshly scrubbed skin. BP (5%) is separate....I use it every night. Seems to be working well so far! Planning on switching to 15% salicylic in the future. Also, you must apply B to your entire face and neck (if you breakout there) instead of applying it to active acne only because you want to prevent FUTURE breakouts. And of course, you'll need a effective moisturizer after all this, followed by sunscreen!

Re: BP or salicylic acid?

hmmm i am using retin A presently as an over night treatment for my acne

and the face wash contains 2% salycilic acid........

so i guess i would be buying that face wash for sure

but for the pimples i get ........ should i get some pimple pen with BP??? and if yes which one would be better?

garnier
clean and clear
neutrogena
neem (its name is something like that i guess and its pakistani made)

Re: BP or salicylic acid?

low concentration salicylic acid peels combined with a glycolic face wash, and retin a/tazorac is the best routine.

Re: BP or salicylic acid?

^ Agreed

Re: BP or salicylic acid?

so if salicylic acid peels are good then a face wash with its concentration should be good for the pink and red spots too right?
i cant go for peels my mum dad are already quite tired of all my hitch pitch for my skin lolx
