Boy or girl/Old Wives Tales

Re: Boy or girl

It's 2005....almost 2006. I don't mean to come across as being a bi*ch or anything....but I dunno where you guys live....but most places these days have ultrasound which take the guess work out of all this. Where you don't have to look at the size of the stomach, analyze the kind of cravings the woman's having or other stuff like that. Maybe it's the result of being raised by 2 doctors but I think that stuff is crap. Although my grandmother used to believe in it.

BTW, my mom's a OB/GYN. I once brought up this topic with her b/c one of my friend's was pregnant and she told me that at least in her personal experience, she has never once had a patient whose ultrasound was wrong in determining the gender of the baby. As in 20+ years of practice, not a single patient's ultrasound showed she was having a girl and she ended up with a boy or vice versa. I do understand that no technology is perfect so there's always the POSSIBILITY that an ultrasound is wrong.....but realistically speaking, what're the odds of it?

Have any of you ever heard of any woman whose ultrasound told her one gender, yet the baby born ended up being the opposite? And I'm not talking about stories where a friend's cousin's mom's neighbor's friend knew the woman....I'm talking about where either you met a woman or someone you know(parents/siblings/friends) met a woman first hand who ultrasound was incorrect.

This is purely out of curiosity, why would you go through all the guessing with food, size, position, dreams etc. when you can just have a ultrasound?

Just for the record, I don't think there's anything wrong with anyone believing in all these myths....but I just don't understand why you'd put yourself through all the anxiety of wondering when you have the option of knowing for sure.

Re: Boy or girl

It's just for fun... some ppl like to be surprised til the verry end :) Tho the ones who do use these myths for truth are just scary :(

Old Wives Tales: pregnancy.

Is it a boy or a girl?

If you're carrying high it's a boy and low, it's a girl.

If you're carrying in front, it's a boy and wide, it's a girl.

If you crave sweets, you'll have a girl.

If you crave meats or cheeses, you'll have a boy.

If you get red highlights in your hair, you'll have a girl.

If your belly gets hairy, you'll have a boy.

Dark nipples mean you're having a boy.

If you have morning sickness early in pregnancy, it's sure to be a girl.

If you look a little "rough around the edges," it must be a girl because girls steal their mother's looks.

If your skin breaks out, you're sure to have a girl.

If your right breast is bigger, it will be a boy. If your left breast is larger, it will be a girl.

If your hands are dry and chapped, it will be a boy.

If your feet are not colder than they were before pregnancy, you're having a girl.

Suspend a needle from some thread and have someone hold it one inch above your hand. If the needle swings back and fort, a girl is in your future. If it moves in a circle, you can count on a boy.

Hang your wedding ring from a strand of the father's hair over your belly. If the ring moves side to side, it'll be a girl. If it swings, it will be a boy. Also, be sure to count the rotations that the ring makes to find out how many children you'll carry in your lifetime.

(alternate version) To predict the sex of a baby: Suspend a wedding band held by a piece of thread over the palm of the pregnant girl. If the ring swings in an oval or circular motion the baby will be a girl. If the ring swings in a straight line the baby will be a boy.

**Monday's child is fair of face;
Tuesday's child is full of grace;
Wednesday's child is full of woe;
Thursday's child has far to go;
Friday's child is loving and giving;
Saturday's child works hard for a living.
But the child that is born on the Sabbath day
is fair and wise, good and gay. *

If you raise your arms above your head when you are pregnant, you will
strangle the baby with the umbilical cord. (This is NOT true!)

To induce labor, eat spicy foods.

PS: this is meant 4 entertainment purpose only still i thought that it would be funny 2 share it here!

Re: Boy or girl/Old Wives Tales

Oh and i ahve known from first hand experience of ultrasounds being wrong in england whr 3 incidents they were told it was a boy n it was a girl ............... so mayb it is in the hands of ALLAH if he wants you to know despite technology.
1 way of 100% knowing is the amniocentesis but that has a risk 2 baby!!!

Yaar, indirectly woh humme itlaa kar rahi hai ke hum sub khala bunnay wali hain, haina…BV???

Re: Boy or girl/Old Wives Tales

i heard girls kick around a bit more and r more active.. seen old women guess just by the shape of belly.. if its more rounded at top -its a boy. I want a girl next time..

Re: Boy or girl

LOL… yaar it happened with me!!
My husband and i always wanted a girl… When i asked the doctor, she told me that we were going to have a girl. We got everything pink and all that. At the end, TaDaaaaa!!! a son was born… :smiley: It really was a shock.

But i am really happy to have him, he the most beautiful kid in the whoooooooooooooole world :clown:

But yes, a week before my delivery, i had this feeling that it might be a boy. Maybe, it was from Allah preparing me to have a son.
