Boy, lad, master, sir/girl, gal, lady, ma'am

So at what age(s) do you become a sir or ma’am?

And at age are you willing to accept that you’re now a sir or a ma’am?

Neither do I ;)

Re: Boy, lad, master, sir/girl, gal, lady, ma'am

I've seen sales reps and cashiers and receptionists even call teenagers "ma'am." I don't think there's a standard answer for this.

Re: Boy, lad, master, sir/girl, gal, lady, ma'am

Some of them are nice but clueless. It is like they have to do 2 jobs at once, interprete English (not their native language) and then solve your problem.

Re: Boy, lad, master, sir/girl, gal, lady, ma'am

I'm an uncle for a 6 year old.
No complaints.

Now if a lady who's a couple years younger than you calls you an uncle. So not impressive.

:D

Re: Boy, lad, master, sir/girl, gal, lady, ma'am

When i was in early 20s..i hated called sir. But now that i am close to 29..i don't mind being called sir.

Re: Boy, lad, master, sir/girl, gal, lady, ma’am

Sorry that was me!

Re: Boy, lad, master, sir/girl, gal, lady, ma'am

soon as you hit/look 21, people can call you sir or maam, you're an adult and service workers will start referring to you as such out of respect when they don't know your name. I always thought it was funny when people start calling me ma'am. I would never want to be be called girl in a professional setting, i think it's degrading. Lady when I'm like 40 and a stranger is frustrated with me: "move it, lady!"
