Ricky Hatton will be trained by Floyd Mayweather Sr for his fight against IBF light-welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi in Las Vegas on 22 November.
The American is father to Floyd Jr - who beat Hatton in 2007 - and will fly into Manchester later in September.
Mayweather Sr and his son, the only fighter to have beaten Hatton, do not see eye to eye, with Mayweather Jr preferring to work with his uncle Roger - also a trainer - for most of his career.
After winning his first world title belt in 1998, the boxer dismissed his father in a bitter falling-out and the pair did not speak for seven years. Mayweather Sr even trained Oscar de la Hoya to fight against his son last year.
Mayweather Jr announced his retirement from boxing in June.
