Bowling Strategy for Pakistan in Super 8 matches

Obviously the most important thing is to qualify. As usual we are at the mercy of other teams and their results (nothing new). Lets hope we qualify, Inshallah and then needs to revist our bowling strategy.

1- Asif needs to come and Sami needs to go.
2- Asif should finish his four overs in the begining. They should not think of using him towards the end. He is simply not a death bowler.
3- Razzaq, Afridi, Hafeez along with Asif needs to finish the first 12 overs.
4- Aamer and Ajmal from over 12 onwards.

Re: Bowling Strategy for Pakistan in Super 8 matches

Hafeez should be used as a part timer, not as a regular bowler who HAS to bowl his full quota. We have one all rounder too many in the team, we all saw how much good they did chasing down a total today. Basically if your top 5 batsmen don't show up, it doesn't really matter. I vote for dropping either Alam/Misbah/Razzaq and adding Asif. In fact if Butt flops again, I'd be tempted to drop him and have Hafeez open. Sami actually was unlucky today, sure he bowled a few bad balls, who didn't. But remember the dropped catches off his bowling, and some of those 6's were hit off good balls. That's just good batting. Hafeez and Afridi weren't much better.

Re: Bowling Strategy for Pakistan in Super 8 matches

i said this after the bangladesh match. we went with one all rounder too many. we're so afraid of batting flops that we have a pretty toothless bowling attack.

hafeez needs to go, asif needs to come in.

Re: Bowling Strategy for Pakistan in Super 8 matches

^^ I say, keep hafeez, let the BUTT warm the benches for rest of the tournament... BUTT's habit of dropping catches seems to be permanent we don't want somebody like him who have HOLES in this hands... i'd rather go with a batsmen who don't score much but is dependable fielder.. who can stop the ball and catch everytime it goes to him...

I have put a post regarding Fawad Alam's utility in the team.. We could have Asif or Butt in the team in place of this useless bugger..

Re: Bowling Strategy for Pakistan in Super 8 matches

Hafeez bowling is the weakest link along with usual Sami. Bring back Asif for Sami and Razz/Hafeez can share.

Re: Bowling Strategy for Pakistan in Super 8 matches

Sit Butt out... get Asif in... open with Hafeez - the way our batting is, Hafeez or Butt won't matter really. Either of them is capable of a one-off good performance, and with Butt's poor fielding record, and Hafeez's "marginal" utility as a bowling option, I'd have Hafeez over Butt.

Re: Bowling Strategy for Pakistan in Super 8 matches

^ I agree, also they should use Fawad as another part-time bowler. 2-3 overs from Hafeez and Fawad each.

Re: Bowling Strategy for Pakistan in Super 8 matches

Wait a minute: I agree with Ramiz Raja's comments in Pak-Aus match that 20-20 is a format where a captain has to be highly flexible. So we just cant sketch a straight line and follow that. We need to have atleast Plans A, B and C for a "what-if" situation. Afridi cannot do the same captaincy as what he did in first two matches. He is sinking everyone in.
Asif has to be in but I dont agree that he has to bowl 4 hours at first cuz what if he's hit hard in first two overs..

This is surely the time to be very smart, Mr. Afridi

I agree... it was absurd to see Hafeez bowl for so long despite him being clobbered so badly.

I would prefer him to bowl his quota before 15th over of the inning.

Re: Bowling Strategy for Pakistan in Super 8 matches

Just Pray Aus Beat Bangla .....Than Pak Will Qualify For Super Eights

I agree with all except No. 4. At least the first & third over with Aamir The problem is, is anyone in Pak mgmt listening to you bro?

Agree with all your points, but a captain should be smart enough to be flexible in his strategy and be able to change it on the spot. If Asif gets hit in the beginning, he doesn't have to complete his 4 overs on the trot, but can come back later. If spinners aren't getting help from the wicket, then Hafeez doesn't need to bowl his full quota, etc. etc.

aray han bhai, mein nay kab kaha hay kay koi bhee strategy pather kee lakeer ho gee :)

Agree with all of you that in T20 one must be flexible to make necessary changes according to the situation instead of sticking to the plan devised in the hotel room a night before the game.

If Asif gets a beating in his first 2 overs obviously no point in continuing with him. But chances are he may be able to bowl better in the first part of the innings than the last part.

I strongly think that Afridi needs to keep Aamer for over # 12 and onwards just like Gul unless and untill all other bowlers are being thrown out of the park and he is the last option.

Usually most of the runs are scored in the last 10 overs and if Aamer and Ajmal can restrict the opposition to only 50-55 runs or even less in those last 8 overs it will do wonders for us.

strategy hmmm...well my strategy w'd be to bowl Hafeez as little as possible, he's proving way too expensive

*I think Pakistan's main problem is because they are not very confident about their batting they are trying to overcompensate for this longstanding weakness by playing one too many bits and pieces cricketers like Hafeez and Fawad. *

Afridi and Razzaq are genuine ODI/T20 all-rounders but those two - Hafeez and Fawad - have a fair way to go before they can be rated as anything. Not playing Asif was a big mistake in my view.

Admittedly this is T20 but now we know why Imran Khan was never a big fan of bits and pieces cricketers. By all means play an extra all-rounder if they are as good as Kallis or Watson but sadly we do not have that luxury at the moment

you guys worry too much. I'm sure Afridi's got it all under control. I'm sure he has a master plan which will knock em all dead.

there's a reason why he backstabbed everyone of his captains, badmouthed his coach, underperformed deliberately. he did it all for the nation. his tactical genius which I was told shines brighter than the sun itself will surely emerge any moment and blind us all. I for one am waiting with baited breath.

in the meanwhile, has anyone seen my Afridi poster? I wanna make love to it.

Moderetro change the title to “Bowling Strategy for Bangladesh in Super 8 matches”… please do not mislead people and give them false khwaabs :snooty:

Re: Bowling Strategy for Pakistan in Super 8 matches

Things would be very simple if we drop Butt and open with Akmal and Hafeez to bring in Mohammad Asif. Hafeez and Butt are both garbage, but I'd pick Hafeez over Butt anyday because Butt is without a doubt the WORST fielder not only in Pakistan, but the worst out of all teams in the whole tournament.

But, just how our captains and coaches blindly love Kamran Akmal, it seems as though since Afridi has been named captain, he has been all praise for Salman Butt as well. I remember his interview on GEO Super right before departing for the WI that he was very impressed with Salman Butt after the conclusion of the conditioning camp in Lahore. I knew right there and then, that sadly we will see someone as useless as Butt opening for Pakistan.

Everytime we think we might just get a brave and somewhat sensible captain who will get rid of all this garabe we have in our team, all our hopes quickly get washed away.

Re: Bowling Strategy for Pakistan in Super 8 matches

I think Asif is much better bowler than M.Sami he is not looking good in his bowling.and Salman not a Best Player in Twent 20 game. His feilding is so bad he drop catch everytime.
