Bowling combination for the semi final

Re: Bowling combination for the semi final

alright thats your view and I respect that. To me Pakistan build their batting inning around younus and yousuf all other are 25 ballers hard hitters which gives perfect combination to this lineup.

I knew you will bring up todays game and I am just wondering what do you have to say about game agasint India? and even today take Yousuf's 45 out and there is nothing much left behind. There is no point scoring at 6 per over and getting out in 25 overs. I think first objective should always be to utilize all 50 overs.

Re: Bowling combination for the semi final

Ehsan Jee, it were not these two who stayed for 50 overs for India Match.

It were Malik and MoYo. Malik with the major contribution.

Very good point - my fear as well...plus per YK in his press conf..."he has atleast 1 big innings" I am afraid that the big innings may be after CT...
However, the option would be to bring someone in green such as Fawad, who I think is a better player then Imran, but he has been sitting out all through out the CT (did not have big parchee :D)

Re: Bowling combination for the semi final

I would NOT play Asif in semifinal on Saturday. Asif goes out and Aamir comes IN.

Imran stays out. Misbah goes out and Fawad comes IN

Kamran
Fawad
Younis
Malik
Yousuf
Umar Akmal
Afridi
Rana
Ajmal
Gul
Aamir

what...r u commenting on todays scorecard or someother...

get the facts right bud...

So the bowler who is talk of the opponents, for which opponents sets out strategy is going to sit on bench.. this will give them some relief...

there some thing else to worry about... Misbah also performed today

the only person who didn't perform and was cause of pressure was Younis Khan..

During Inda-Pakistan match this guy created pressure by drying runs, we made 3 runs in 5 overs... and then got out, thus increasing the pressure on rest of the batting line up ( it was shoaib and yousaf who bailed us out)

today younas khan repeated the same, he wasted the openning start provided by Kamran Akmal and then again got out cheaply, creating pressure on rest of the Pakistani line up on a difficult track

later on bowling he let the btasmen get set, by not shuffling the bowlers, i don't know what he was waiting for before introducint Akmal and Shoaib....he let them settle on relatively weaker bowling link.. Rana

Nazir might join in, but who will step out, Misbah did a good job today, he stood his ground against all the odds ( difficult pitch and good bowling), Rana bowled well, but that is in last few overs, earlier he was the one who was most expensive, but yes this true that Rana is pinch hitter and can throw the ball out of the park in dying overs...

So pick is really difficult, what a beauty and depth of Pakistan's bowling attack, we are discussing which bowler to rest !!!

I guess the best choice would be to rest Younis Khan and let me be the captain

OK, now a compromise has to be found.

What about this:
MoYo stays but he comes after Umer Akmal?

And that leaves us with the major challenge, are we going to leave out Asif or Rana on a bowlers friendly wicket?

As for today, I personally think had he gone in the 40th over, we would have had greater chance to reach 250 or even above. His blocking every ball and failure to rotate the strike puts the other batsman under tremendous pressure and end result is that the other batsman gets out cheaply slogging.

Not to say that MoYo is not a good player, he is in fact a very good player but not really suitable for this format of the game and one good performance against india has not changed my point of view.

Re: Bowling combination for the semi final

NZ will bring in Obrein to replace Tuffey

O’Brien cleared to replace Tuffey

MoYo is the inning builder, Umer Akmal has to bat at number six, this where all the new comers bat and learn, winning or losing a match is responsibility of senior players and not juniors, yet they can play an important role in it.

Umer has long career ahead of him, he need to prove himself, two three innings cannot earn him the responsibility MoYo or others have earned after getting the team out of crisis zillion times

You have to put the the IRON before concrete if you want to give any chance to pillar to stand tall and strong !

Re: Bowling combination for the semi final

Lekin yaar he doesn't get more than 3-4 overs.
And given his match winning performance against WI, he has earned better than that.

I don't want to see him getting out for zero for attempted slogging. This is very unfair.

Re: Bowling combination for the semi final

Except for two or three posters here the rest of the people show their lack of understanding of the game to such an extent that it's not even worth getting into a discussion.

I can not believe people are blaming Yousuf for PK not getting to 250. Hello! Australia scored the winning bye run of the last delivery. This pitch and the weather were good for about 200 runs total.

Re: Bowling combination for the semi final

**Aamir, Ajmal and Afridi shud play ........... I think one of Asif/Gul/Rana shud sit out ....

I hear you, but he is youngster, remember for how long Inzi batted on this position, Ijaz Ahmed, Salim Malik and even Miandad batted at this number, we need a proper batsman, he have potential be one, so lets not spoil him or over burden him, lets give him the exposure and let him learn how to slog and not to get out on zero.

At the time Pak were batting, pitch had no demons in it as many experts had rightly mentioned.

My biggest problem with MoYo and Misbah is their lack of finding gaps. They very often allow 18-19 dot balls in a row, even on the flattest of the pitches. This is a sin, to say the least! Wonder what Miandad would say about that.

As for Australians today, I think their batting is also ordinary (take Ponting and Hussey from today's team out and you see what they are left with).

Apart from that, it was some disciplined and well varied bowling from Pak that did the trick (only one no ball!). Hopefully they can repeat it in the semis as well.

Re: Bowling combination for the semi final

On a pace friendly wicket, we would not need two spinners. Since Ajmal is the better spinner he stays and Afridi should sit out. His batting will not be much help in seam and swing friendly conditions. All four pacers can then play.

If the pitch is not that green (unlikely), then Asif should be the one to sit out. He showed signs of rust, was slowest one of the pack and did not look threatening until that one over.

Shoaib Malik thank you for your important role and we won't forget about your century. With that said drop malik and bring in Aamir and stick with the same team. lets go with all out attack with pacers and specialist spinners. Rana can bat so he can move up the order.

  1. Kamran Akmal
  2. Afridi
  3. Younis Khan
  4. Yusuf
  5. Misbah
  6. Umer Akmal
  7. Rana Naveed
  8. Umer Gul
  9. Asif
  10. Ajmal
  11. Amir

We have four specialist batsmen, 2 all rounders and a wicket keeper/batsman. Adding another batsman won't make us a world beater but adding an extra bowler will give us a killer instinct! Also to note, Nazir and Malik may not be able to handle a seaming wicket.

Even though Gul struggled little bit but he seems to be the quickest among all the bowlers and can cause some problems to the batsmen. NZ historically always struggled against our pace attack so we should keep it that way.

Win the toss( easy part), bat first and if we collapse with score below 200 , we will still have hope to win with our quality bowlers. See it's that simple

This is a good problem to have! We have depth in all aspects!

Re: Bowling combination for the semi final

Mohd Yousuf not an ODI batsman, drop Malik for Misbah… I think I’ve read enough :cb:

Re: Bowling combination for the semi final

**I don't know y ppl keep on saying that Rana is an all rounder ?
He may have played 1 or 2 good innings in his carrier .. but thats it ...
